[ Session Name ] Build your own Minecraft hut by coding [ Primary Space ] Youth Zone [ Secondary Space ] Web Literacy

[ Submitter's Name ] Alexander Gonzalez [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Student at Norbury Primary School in London

[ Other Facilitator 1's Name ] Sandra Gonzalez

[ Other Facilitator 2's Name ] Sophia Gonzalez

What will happen in your session?

“You would learn how to code a hut in Minecraft by programming volumes and you can also decorate your hut with flags of your choice.”*

This submission is prepared by *Alexander, seven-year-old-boy, who has been an active Mozfest participant for five-years. After Mozfest 2017 he felt ready and asked me to help him submit this proposal. Alexander will be teaching everyone in the session how to combine volumes to create/code buildings in Minecraft.

First, he’ll give everyone paper cut-outs of Minecraft commands so that everyone can start thinking of the right commands and their order without having to be in-front of the computer. It will be like solving a simple puzzle.

Then everyone will have a go in the computer.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

“The goal of this session is to teach everyone that Minecraft is not only for playing but for coding too”*

*All quotes are Alexander’s response to this questioner.

Alexander has self-taught himself how to code in Minecraft and he enjoys its very much. He is now really keen to share his knowledge with other participants, specially children that love playing the game but might not know they can code it as well. He was first introduced to Minecraft at Mozfest 2014 when he was three, and he now wants to be an active contributor and makes other children happy as he loves coding his favourite game.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

This session will require raspberry pies with Minecraft developer kit installed, which is available for free at the Microsoft site. It would be nice to have extra stickers from the conference to put on the posters.

Alexander will provide cut-outs and poster size paper from home.

Alexander’s mum and twelve year old sister will be the other two facilitators, and we will be helping him during the session in case anything is missing or too many people have questions or anyone requires one-to-one attention.
