What will happen in your session?
We will collaboratively create a guide for how to sell the idea of open working. This will draw on the - experiences and viewpoints of participants, and will include:
- examples of where open collaboration has benefitted their work and how.
- barriers that prevent people from working openly, such as emotional, technical, commercial obstacles.
- how to overcome these these barriers, make it easy to get involved, and build a sense of mutual self-interest.
Some content will come from our experiences working at the Open Data Institute, but contributions from participants will be essential.
Those with no experience in working openly can share reasons why they haven’t done so, or they can learn from others.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
By the end of the session, participants should be able to:
- identify the barriers that prevent people from thinking or working openly - such as emotional, technical, or commercial.
- overcome these barriers and sell the idea of working openly, including how it can benefit different types of work.
- implement potential methods, tools or approaches that can help people think and work more openly.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
Projector and office supplies will be sufficient materials for the session.
