People have been paid for the time they gave, they have been compensated already, there is no tie from the time spent to the object anymore.

Don't police want to retire too? Why are they working for the wrong side?

That and their economy is growing fairly slow and their wages have gone up so they are trying to grow a middle class and learning all the problems with rising wages combined with their poor global reputation. As other nations can offer significantly cheaper labor the fact China has no real allies means people jump ship pretty fast and their middle class growth tends to be at odd with their authoritarian governing style. Then top it all off with having the largest population in the world right in the climate change red zone and China might have a rough ride ahead of them even if most ppl don't realize it yet.

This is how the current economic model for developing a country works, take advantage of their lack of labor laws because they don’t know any better, pollute their environment, and introduce them to plastic trinkets and western capitalism. Once they figure out they’ve been taken advantage of the company leaves for somewhere cheaper to do it over again. Except now, this developing country is left with an environmental mess they can’t clean up and their economy is fucked.

They're slow, noisy, and Ukraine has shot down a few with handheld rifles. Literally have guys who go outside and stand around taking shots at these drones and succeeding. They're not exactly high tech marvels.

Im a local, WTF are you talking about? Paying elite? Even big government assholes that associated with drugs got slaughtered. Exaggerated? Are you a fucking moron? Before him you could barely go around at night or cary any valuables at all without getting jumped, during operation tukhang you could leave your house unlocked and no one would try shit, you could send your kids on trips on their own without worrying, now a kid goes to a nearby park gets raped or killed for absolutely no reason other than an asshole being high.
Fuck you foreigners who have no skin in the game, you don’t know what it’s like to live in fear in your own country.

Reply to The UN General Assembly on Wednesday is expected to adopt a resolution calling for a top court to outline legal obligations related to climate change, an "unprecedented challenge of civilizational proportions." by DoremusJessup
I, for one, would love to see an ICJ advisory opinion on climate change obligations.
Mr. Benoit Mayer is not entirely wrong that it may not help the overall cause, but probably should have declined to comment given his position or at least acknowledged the massive conflict of interest.
China is not only the largest contributor to climate change on the planet, they are also extremely vindictive about people speaking ill of them.
He has a vested interest in downplaying the request.

Considering each of those inanimate objects were made and bought with the proceeds of people spending their time, it's all shit that can be weighed on the same scale.

Money and child support etc. here is honestly very good. I think a big issue is the length of time that formal education takes. You are well into your twenties before you can START looking for your first job with a University education, which can delay when you can get married and have children, assuming that educated people prefer to have a house or some kind of stable living situation before starting a family. This also means that your children are likely to be an expense well into their 20s. Also, not just how many children you have but when you have them effects the demographic chart already. It makes a big difference to the country’s population if there are 40 years between generations rather than 20!

Appealing to older demographic I suppose? Italy is considered to be one of, if not, the most culinarily refined countries in the world (they pride themselves on their food) that I suppose there's a lot of pearl clutching going on at the concept of growing food rather than the traditional way.

Yes, it's a cycle. First it was China, then it's India, next could be Vietnam/Bangladesh/Phillipines, some other country that needs to put it's people in employment and gain capital from it.

One can’t really say fearmongered because drugs had always been a major issue in the country even before the Duterte administration — just never really reported well on. Unless you’re in a sheltered upper class family, stories of drugs ruining youth lives or gang-related fighting or the occasional murmur about syndicates, are not uncommon in the Philippines.
As you pointed out, some drug dealers have acquired so much wealth and influence over their control that it would be practically impossible to remove the problem in this manner. The former president attempted a very straightforward solution that helped him deal with the problem in the city he was once mayor in, but national politics is obviously very different.
He failed to alleviate the drug problem that way and should definitely be investigated for allowing collateral damage (which is acceptably understandable given that governments should always minimize unlawfully killing its on citizens without due process), but his solution reflected the general perception of anarchy faced by the general public in the Philippines — especially in the less well-off cities in the provinces and even the slums of Manila. His mixture of charisma and his harsh yet (brutally) logical attempt to rid the problem is the reason why despite this, he remains incredibly popular in the country (and probably won another term if the constitution allowed it).
