Well you're being hyperbolic with the "bomb throwing" comment and poisoning the well "let's wait for the evidence to come out from the people that are in charge of evidence while being accused of something". Useless comment

the last one lost me.

the first one: I guess you're right, in the sense that that's mostly what "rule of law" means. it means that a community of nations, in this instance, kind of have to agree these are the principles we will be governed/ will govern ourselves/each other by.

in this context a community of nations did agree, by signing the Rome treaty. Russia may not have signed, but they're able to read so they're well aware that the treaty exists and what its terms are.

So thats the jeopardy they took on by invading Ukraine and committing these actions there. Big shrug. Guess it hasn't been working out for them.

The problem with this is that it pits Sunak and the Tories against the EU, and that is a VERY favorable position for the right wing here. They love to pretend that they're fighting for some vision of our sovereignty, rather than being bastards.

To be clear, something needs to be done about the current system of asylum, but unilateral and draconian measures designed for political theater don't help.

I live in a red state as well. The reason I'm reluctant to tell people it's going to be okay is because of the police. If they come to Texas and go to a town like Vidor, which was historically a Klan town, they are not safe calling the police for help if they don't visibly 'fit in'. Even when the attitudes of the general public change, and their voting habits change, the small town red state cops will still be small town red state cops.

Sounded to you like:

I am not invalidating V-Dem in any way I just said I am curious about the difference. Agreed that more isn't always better , too many indicators might reduce the quality and weightage.

I believe when looking at V-dem , Freedom house , EIU together we could get a more clearer picture rather than picking and choosing. Again there isn't a clear path in Indian democracy , the path in Indian democracy right now is closer to Eastern European which aren't at war right now and some countries like USA where the supreme court reversed some crucial judgments.

Countries like Israel , Ethiopia , Sri lanka etc are very sensitive democratically. There isn't a path more of ups and downs between years similar to most democracies not under major threats. Most democracies are under small threats all the time.

I agree that every democracy should try to eliminate small threats and always improve.

There you go again trying to invalidate V-Dem. Again the different indexes measure different things so they have variation. You can find the details in wiki for EIU which uses 60 indicators and the V-Dem uses 470 indicators so obviously there would be differences. It is not to say that more is always better but it is more granular and takes into account more things.

V-dem is used and trusted by numerous organizations so I will use that, feel free to use EIU if you think its better. I do hope India can reverse its path, but while democratic values like human rights and freedom of press are threatened it is not likely.

in germany, they give you money to have children. it's called kindergeld.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_benefit

depends on the number of children: first 2 is 219€/child/month, until they're adults. i knew people in college that were still collecting kindergeld.

maternal leave can be anywhere from several weeks to several years. you keep your job and a paycheck with few limitations.

your employer is also required to give you two paid vacation days per month. that's almost 4 weeks of paid vacation per year at the entry level, before you count national/state holidays.

undergrad is free.

you could have all this too, if you would only tax the rich, but america sucks huge dirty donkey dick and loves it

Annie would say pretty much anything if she thought it would get rid of Macron and leave an opening for Mélenchon, she's as left as it gets. That doesn't mean that she's wrong about this, but without more information regarding the nature and context of the searches, this sounds a lot like her usual brand of politics, i.e. throwing bombs.
