I'm worried he's doing this to buy time. He expects people to relax, get a bit more comfortable, meanwhile he's regrouping and looking for more backup. The protestors should not go home yet, unfortunately.

You know how hard a general strike in a country this size would be? 4 time zones just on the mainland. Very different ideas in every region of what’s ideal.
The west coast is VASTLY different then the east coast. Culture, economics, etc.

Don't spread misinformation. It's the Italian SAR that is responsible for assigning them a port for disembarkation. It is by international maritime law decidedly not the responsibility of the rescuer to find a willing port. There is also nothing that says it has to be the closest port. Only that it has to be a safe port. The Italian SAR never assigns Tunisian ports. I don't know whether it is because of the hassle involved or because they don't consider them safe.

Trennbar verbs, reflexive verbs, gendered nouns, and verb cases have entered the chat. It does have quite a few similarities to english, but I've found people who speak Russian and Ukrainian pick it up way faster than others.

“Even McDonalds announced it was closing its stores Monday”… for the general strike.
We have a new metric! Waffle House restaurant closings in the US is used as a metric for natural disaster severity, now we know how to track the damage to democracy! If your government has gone full-dictatorship, check out McDonalds status; if they are closed, the govt has gone too far, and will soon fall.

Not irrelevant at all. As I said, the non-refoulement principle applies. Besides, it's the Italian SAR that is responsible for assigning them a port for disembarkation. It is by international maritime law decidedly not the responsibility of the rescuer to find a willing port.

Reply to comment by rylalu in US-Canada agree to turn back asylum seekers at border by nat9191
What even? You start out by saying 10% of people in the U.S. are in jail which is obviously not true. It's like half of one percent.
You say 75% of people are in jail for non-violent drug offenses, but ALL drug offenses add up to less than 50%, let alone nonviolent ones.
I scrolled down and saw you saying that children are separated from families at the U.S. border. That's a total false equivalency. People were really mad about Trump's policy to separate every single child from every family member, even with documented evidence to show they were related. The idea was that's such a horrible experience no parent would willingly do it. Let that sink in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_administration_family_separation_policy
That was rescinded when the courts were about to rule that if the government separated families it had to put them back together again - and the government forgot to have any plan whatsoever to do that. The courts did rule in that way. The government STILL hasn't managed to reunite all families.

If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it.

Honestly, if you're looking to learn German, starting from knowing English is pretty much the best position you can be in, short of knowing Dutch or something.

A reform to aspects of the Israeli judiciary is still considered necessary by many as the system is somewhat unbalanced. BUT, this "reform", that is practically a coup, was not spoken about by anyone.

VHS courses aren't free for most people. Each level costs around 200 Euro, and the levels are A1.1, A1.2, A2.1, A2.2, B1.1, B1.2, B2 and so on, so it costs over 1000 Euros. It is still cheaper than other schools, and if you have a special circumstance, like being a German citizen or asylum seeker and registered with the job center, BAMF will pay for the courses in full. If you pay out of pocket and then pass the B1 test, I believe you get refunded 50% of your fees through level B1. If you take classes full time, going from A1.1 to B2 takes about a year.

Yes. I’ve learned that voting doesn’t really work. If you read history and heck even during the pandemic - they really don’t want you to stay home. Civil disobedience or general strikes across multiple industries is the only way to get the capitalist attention. However, things will have to get pretty bad for that to happen here
