I think you need to read up on what recognition of Taiwan or the PRC really means and why some countries still recognize Taiwan over the PRC

The U.S. doesn’t really give a shit about it. Remember they have their own weird One China policy in which they technically only deal with mainland China and not Taiwan. Very few countries recognize Taiwan to be the real China still.

The problem for the government isn't the protesters having military training. It's that due to the nature of mandatory service the army will never turn on the people. I'm very serious under no circumstances will the army ever even dare to attack the protesters.
