Well, it's not exactly brain surgery.
I really hope you like Mitchell and Webb. And yes, I know I technically got it backwards.

It's funny in a way. Like Orban's a mini-Putin who's convinced himself he's a tactical genius, and is entirely unaware that the EU has grown tired of his bullshit and is perfectly willing to call his bluff. At least I hope so. This can't go on like this.

Can't we just throw Hungary out of NATO (and EU while we're on it)?

Unlikely, but if Finland joins it becomes moot as Sweden is buffered by Finland.

What if I told you it's theater and has nothing to do with Sweden at all? They are both after consessions and probably have a deal with Putin.

To be fair though, a consulting firm whose business is looking into businesses would be a beautiful cover for an intelligence agent. Not saying it is the case, but it is reasonable to assume that an authoritarian government may see it as a possibility.

These types of firms are also hired to insure companies complying with terms of their contracts for things like maximum hours, minimum wages, child labor; i.e. a whole host of things important to western companies buying their products.

Maybe the rest of the EU need to double down on their criticism of Orban as clearly the withholding of Covid funds isn't sufficient.

Orban has no one else he can take it out on so he's going for Sweden.

This is exactly why I think this went down. China didn’t want something to get out to the global financial markets and were literally willing to take this action to make sure that didn’t happen. Just my guess but I’d bet that’s the case.

Oh, I remember that shit, all right. All my Republican friends were gung ho for it, shit talking about a “war of civilizations” and other such thought-stopping nonsense. My Democrat friends were mostly for it, also, but less emphatic about it.
I saw 9/11 as a bully getting punched in the nose (no offense to anyone who lost someone there, I’m talking geopolitics, not personal) and was a little surprised that view wasn’t voiced more often.
The patriot act should have been repealed wholesale years ago, but no, the “border” of the U.S. still extends way inland, the expanded surveillance powers still hold up, there’s still secret courts etc etc etc.
That’s a lot of words to say that I’m 100% in agreement with you, just persnickety about historic details.

Yeah, we're now entering the "petty tit-for-tat political grandstanding for your domestic audience" phase of the US-China relationship.
