Reply to comment by Equal-Warning-8612 in Turkey widens probe into building collapses as quake toll exceeds 50,000 by Pluto-NO
They'll probably use these investigations to scapegoat their opposition. Erdogan already knows why the buildings collapsed and who is responsible; him and the immense corruption he lets happen. This is just lip service to the victims to seem like they're doing something to fix it, but Erdogan is more than likely going to use it to blame people against him and try to get even more power. Can't let a tragedy go to waste. They've already hinted at delaying the election later this year due to the earthquakes.

Reply to comment by Raptor22c in Russia tries to encircle Bakhmut amid mud of Ukraine’s Donetsk by BusbyBusby
This same mud bogged down the Nazis during their invasion of the USSR. The Ukrainians call the muddy season bezdorizhzhia or "roadlessness".

I own a truck company in the states. The shipping rates were nose diving a year ago and have been back to pre pandemic rates for awhile. Meaning there was too many trucks and the competition in rates for available trucks was long gone. Fuel prices make everything go up. But supply chain problems is a load of shit and hasn’t been a problem for 8 months.

I'm sure a Russian independent journalist talking to an independent outlet is quite aware of the country she lives in and the risks she is taking.

Reply to comment by High-Scorer-001 in Uganda will propose a new anti-gay bill on Wednesday, the speaker of the country's parliament said, as conspiracy theories accusing shadowy international forces of "promoting homosexuality" flood social media by DoremusJessup
The irony is that the virulent anti-gay stance in Uganda is the real Western influence, specifically from decades of right wing Christian missionaries.
Russia, being Russia, takes that pulls a DARVO.

Reply to Japan to add Russia's Wagner Group, others to sanction list over invasion by progress18
People and organizations can get around sanctions but it introduces complications, slow downs and added costs. A good example of this is the sanctions on semi conductors that Russia needs for missiles. Since Russia can't get them directly intermediaries in Central Asian countries will buy large amounts of refrigerators and washing machines from the west. These are then sold on to Russia where they are stripped down and the semi conductors are removed and then reconfigured for missiles. It is time consuming, expensive and doesn't produce the missiles in the desired quantities for waging a large scale war. Will Japanese sanctions stop Wagner? No. Will they make it more expensive and harder for Wagner to operate successfully? Probably.
