Why wouldn’t it? America is one of the countries who actually reacts when their citizens are killed by terrorists. They are also a major player in mediating the Israel-Palestine conflict. A Palestinian terrorists shooting an American citizen is down right stupid. Hopefully they find who is responsible and any who worked with them. Since many of these groups are directly tied to the Palestinian government hopefully the US holds them accountable if they are involved.

Or convince people to stop or at least cut their meat consumption. The global demand for meat can only be met because antibiotics are used in animals. Through the consumption of their meat and their excrements (that are also used as fertilizer) a lot of antibiotics get into the environment and promote antibiotic resistant bugs. Less meat consumption would also be effective against other major threats to humanity (climate change, overfishing and zoonoses), yet convincing people to switch to alternatives seems impossible.

>Why can't China stand on Ukraine's side?

Because China benefits if Russia and NATO countries waste money and resources fighting one another. Most of the world outside Europe view the war as a local one, and there's little appetite to go out on a limb for Ukraine.

Moral arguments tend to ring hollow in many ears when western military aggression in Asia, in Africa, and in Latin America have been going on for decades.

Because he needs the west to be the initiator (ie directly intervene). He is trying his best to shift the narrative as such, but it isn't succeeding. A defeat by Ukrainians alone, with western assistance of course, would be a complete disaster for a regime that has been for almost a decade planning its ethnocide.
