They also didn’t like people knowing how atrocious their relief efforts were. Victims going days without any aid is shameful. A complete logistical failure. My friend said he went to go help on the second day and many areas only had civilians trying to rescue, without even shovels or buckets because they expected that stuff would be available. People without tents for days, burning furniture for warmth. Wtf

So that’s 4 from Poland and 4 from Canada delivered, off to a good start! Apparently 14 from Germany and a few from Sweden will be arriving in the immediate future. Plus the massive shipment of Bradley and CV90 IFV’s- which are technically not main battle tanks, but have significant anti-armour capabilities against Russia’s ancient tank fleet.

Their relationships with Western democracies are at an all-time high right now. Also, they might be closer to and care more about democracies like Japan, Israel, and in Southeast Asia than us in North America or Europe. There's a significant overlap with their BFFs and at least America's BFFs.

I've been reading more about them after Reddit has become filled with extreme rants about them, and I have to disagree that the countries that might actually come to India's defense would be any sort of collective West. Just off the top of my head:

  • They fought the British Empire for their independence and beat them to practice democracy, and lost over 100 million lives in that process. We didn't help them.
  • They fought against a Portuguese dictatorship and beat them. We didn't help them.
  • They've fought 3 or 4 wars with Pakistan and beat them. We didn't help them.
  • They fought a war with China and lost. We didn't help them.

They've been recovering from a civilization-scale apocalypse following the departure of the British Empire, fought in multiple wars in such a short time against despotic regimes. Yet they're still around. We have to give them some credit instead of pretending that the West is some savior when they've been left on their own and deal with so much in the short history of their country.

i've worked in data science and understand data, i know how polling can work and where it fails. were you not surprised when Trump won? if you say yes it shows the holes in your logic. if you say no then you probably can acknowledge the depths of the shit we have created and the probability that indians are just better at playing the "we are all Gods children" wolf in sheep clothing thing that the rest of "us" ddo

also you're right about the misogyny stuff for sure, he's sickening and there's plenty just like him in the rest of the country but india will never be celebrated for the way they treat women at all.

Turkish economy was already tanking. The government has been trying to prop up the numbers since 2015. We have over 100% inflation for two years running.

AKP (The ruling party) was trying to figure out if they could postpone the elections; now they've realized that they'll lose even more votes as they're no longer able to keep up lying about the economy with the earthquake and are trying to have the elections ASAP instead.

They just blocked eksisozluk, a Turkish forum website. They'll probably block all media and social media and try to hold the elections in a complete media blackout so people are as uninformed about what's going on as possible.

They closed universities so people affected by the earthquake can be housed in dormitories; as if that was the only option for housing. The real reason is guessed that the government doesn't want students socializing and talking about politics. They saw the power this has during the 2013 Gezi protests.

Sozcu, a Turkish newspaper that managed to remain not owned by the state is launching their TV station on March 1st. RTUK (Turkish Radio and Television High Authority) has been sending fines left and right to any station doing close to honest reporting on the current crisis. Likely Sozcu TV will be completely shut down as soon as it airs. God knows they've been blocking and stalling all the permits for years now.

Anyone in Turkey who speaks the truth right now is in the crossairs of the government. They want their lies retold, nothing more.

China is two faced, they've been keeping Russia afloat and then the recent news of giving support and aid to Russia with the war, now wanting peace? This is a huge maybe but they might actually see how this War is spiraling down a dangerous path with Russia/Putin, you know Putin will not accept failure or losing the conflict and will go to any lengths to be the winner. If this "peace deal" doesn't work out I think we really have the potential to see things go from bad to worse real quick.

> The US Center for Contemporary Equine Studies is suing Amazon for selling products containing a donkey derivative, despite efforts from advocacy groups to halt the practice.

> The lawsuit claims the e-commerce giant is illegally selling products that contain "Ejiao" - a gelatin made from the skin of donkeys and used in various products like health supplements - in violation of California animal welfare law.

> According to the Brooke USA Foundation, a group fighting against Amazon in support of donkey welfare, ejiao acts as "a hard gel that can be dissolved in hot water or alcohol to be used in food or drink, or in beauty products such as face creams." Some advocacy groups and consumers claim companies are deceptively using the substance, contributing to the slaughter and skinning of millions of donkeys a year.
