No! I don't have a dog; they told me I couldn't go in without one. My wife had the same experience twice and gave up.

Sounds pretty tame tbh. Did you ever have the pleasure of experiencing the Chinatown one?

Odd that noone bothered to be filming or has spoken about witnessing this event in this day and age.

Embrace public transportation! The train here goes a decent amount of places, but driving and finding parking is very painful. I say this as someone from the south who is used to driving pretty much everywhere.

Do cops actually even check for prints these days? Most of them can’t be asked to do anything

Start at 4:30. Great explanation of what an immobilizer does and why Kias are targeted.
Essentially it's a system that detects that your car key is close to the ignition of your car. So that you can't turn your car on unless the key is nearby. Kia skipped out on installing these. So, if you can physically turn the ignition, you've got yourself a new stolen car.

At a guess, increase is linked to economic downturn, see 2008, financial crises it rose to 186 then fell off and didn’t reach that level until Covid hit.
