cohabiting couple, one vegetarian and one eats meat a few times a week. we're ~$450-500 with a combo of Safeway, TJs, occasional WF, and Imperfect foods 2x monthly. If you do want meat consistently, Imperfect has a wide range that is apparently great. Takeout/restaurants are very infrequent.

We don't reeeally meal prep, but have a series of bean and veg centric recipes to draw from. Meat is mostly chicken with occasional deli/pepperoni although I'm the veg one so I don't keep close track. I do bake a lot from scratch so buying flour/extracts can add up.

I was replying to

> I think this paragraph gives a little context to the rise and hopefully stops any "is it or isn't it getting worse" commentary:

>"Authorities said 203 people were killed in D.C. last year, 10 percent fewer than in 2021. But it was the second consecutive year the city breached the 200-mark for homicides. Before 2021, the District last saw 200 or more killings in 2003."

My point was that the quote they were asserting would stop any commentary about whether things are getting worse was not at all informative about whether things are getting worse.

I'd definitely share your cynicism on DCs high end scene. I stopped even bothering with it after a while. The customer base skews towards people who are fine throwing money away as long as they're at a hyped place or trying to impress their Hinge date and that leads to some totally worthless places with way too much concept. Hope you enjoy Menya Hosaki, it's legit.

The Wawa in Tenlytown started limiting the number of school kids that could be in the store at the time, I think because theft was becoming such an issue lol. I don’t live in the area anymore so I don’t see it as often but seeing the line stretch out the door never fails to elicit a chuckle from me

Do you know these people? Have you been crying at your desk all morning over the news that 10 more people died YTD compared to last year? Are you in the process of sending flowers to their grieving families?

Or are you just using them as an emotional cudgel to engage in some horseshit pearl-clutching? Because newsflash: understanding how stats works and giving a less emotionally charged example doesn't make me "fucked in the head," but you screeching about a number that lacks context sure as shit just might.

Ya idk why you're getting down voted. I grew up here and went to public school. It didn't matter what quadrant you were in, kids just go wild once they hit Jr high. Someone else said it, it's the time where you learn a lot of rules were fake and start pushing boundaries, plus for city kids it's around the time where you gain a lot of independence even though your brain is still figuring out what are good ideas and what are bad ideas. Freedom + no risk aversion + thinking you know best = messy adolescence doing crazy stuff

I have seen some nasty accidents involving Vespas on RCPW, I'd take the red line to metro center and switch to blue or orange line to Arlington. People drive really fast, there is often gravel, I would not chance it, OP.

Bro. You need to back up and look at your worldview a bit.

10 people more killed is the innocent loss of 10 human beings. It’s in no way sensationalized to make the statement this is 40% more compared to last year. In fact this should be published widely, vocally, and often. Beat it into the public consciousness. Explain why this is unacceptable.

It’s not fucking baseball. Goddamn. People in this subreddit are legitimately fucked in the head.
