Maybe listen to the podcast instead of offering a false dichotomy?

This lack of creativity is why we're trapped in doing the same thing over and over again despite getting increasingly worse results. Wouldn't it be great if there were other options besides murder and policing that is harmful to communities?

"...a tweet from Newman’s private Twitter account that included a picture of a slave baring his badly scarred back with the caption: "But we don’t know what he did before the picture was taken," according to the lawsuit.

Newman claimed the tweet was mocking commentators who "attempt to explain away videos of police brutality by claiming the victim must have committed wrongdoing before the video started."

Yeah... Sounds like this guy was treated in a manner acording to his actions.

Yes, you can, and you should. The fact that homicides increased in other cities (a lot, but not all!) doesn't make it OK for it to happen in any given city. Crime is always local, and local policies affect it. Stop apologizing for murderers.

You could do Arlington Cemetery and Georgetown while you are on the side of the metro.

You can also head over to George Washington’s Mt. Vernon- there is a cost but interesting visit. You can drive there or there are boat tours/ taxis from Old Town Alexandria. Also Old Town can be fun to check out and grab a bite at one of the restaurants on the water.

$500ish per month for a single person working full time, mostly Safeway but some items from the farmer's market, Yes Organic, and Imperfect Foods delivery (can be much cheaper if I'm good about meal prepping). It's gotten harder to save money/plan since I started having to go back into the office and since I've been dating more again post-covid, TBH. I got by with like $200/month in 2019 in grad school. I'm also admittedly someone who is a bit of an ingredient snob and tries not to eat any highly preserved foods, so that increases my costs.

Also a side note - DC has some of the worst kitchens/tiniest dysfunctional fridges/freezers I've ever had! It's been hard to meal prep bc there's little storage room or space to freeze meals like in prior apartments, so that's made it much harder. That being said, I live in a tiny basement apartment to save on rent for now, so it's a trade off.

But - down with food shaming. Living in this city is hard and we all have different lifestyles.
