I think this may be to commemorate the passage of the District of Columbia Organic Act of 1801, which placed the District under Congressional control. This removed people's citizenship as part of either Maryland or Virginia, meaning they no longer had voting rights.

I'm a transplant, so I didn't really think much about the date. But the Council of DC mentioned it on Twitter today here.

So many businesses busting ass to drain customers and employees at all costs then surprised pikachu when people stop caring. I'm in more rural Virginia and the prices on the delivery apps have just consistently kept creeping up so I finally deleted em.

For $30+ for a $12 meal I can feckin almost just uber there to eat and back.

They're all in NoVA or Maryland, DC only has one rink and it's a complete joke with zero adult hockey programming. But if you'll have a car it's more than doable. The best option will depend greatly on where in the region you'll be staying.

Absolutely, it was terrible. I went to renew my license once and at the time I wore contacts with one eye corrected to see distance and one less corrected for close up. I failed the eye test. I went home, got my glasses, came back, got back in line, waited hours, and passed the test. It took a ridiculous amount of time and two managers to override the failed eye test and approve my license. Sort of my fault, but a crazy amount of time and work to fix.

While it can be intense cardio-wise (or at least as intense as you want it to be), I have to say that in my experience with CrossFit, I have never had someone yell at me or tell me to push through the pain. Sometimes the coaches yell out how much time is left, and sometimes people in the class will cheer you on, but it has never been combative for me. And I am not some great athlete, either.

Those event companies are mostly a terrible way to get to know the embassy and you're paying for okay food. Sometimes awkward scene.

Best to subscribe to mailing lists and get to know embassy staff. They'll invite you to the better events, you'll meet their community and friends and almost always free.

Also their lobbyist entity/"Friends of the Embassy " and other affinity groups if they exist.

Passport DC/Embassy open house coming this May but likely long lines.

I had to go to the DMV a few months ago, and even though I dreaded the wait times, it was actually a super quick and pleasant experience. They’ve really improved things, even my first visit in 2015 wasn’t terrible. I’m also a fan of the DIY inspection kiosks they’ve set up - I no longer have to go to Half St on the weekend and wait behind dozens of cars.
