>I don't think there is any requirement that a "service fee" goes to the staff. So if you don't tip because of the service fee you might just be moving money from the staff to the owner. Which isn't necessarily an awful thing especially if they don't really provide any service but could also screw the staff.

There also no requirement the staff work at an institution where they feel like they're not being fairly compensated.

If staff feel like they're not getting their fair share (or purported value) out of the 20% service fee they can walk.

Enter the arena on the F St side, go to the box office and you can buy tickets day of an event... IF they aren't sold out. Also, can't say if they'll be cheaper than ticketmaster, stubhub, etc, but there won't be those "ticketmaster fees" which I hate.

If there's a store like it in DC proper I definitely haven't found it. You can find a lot of the component parts (Big Planet Comics is right down the block from Joint Custody Records which combines to be like 50% of what a Newbury Comics would have) but there isn't something that perfectly nails it.

I'm not entirely sure if the market is there. DC probably has the least room for quirky fun stuff of any major US city. People take themselves too seriously.

Probably by mistake. I used to work across the street from a government building (which is no longer there); one morning, I looked out the window and saw their flag was upside down. At lunch I walked across the street and asked the guard at the desk what was wrong, since they were flying an international distress signal on their flagpole. The guard burst out laughing and basically said, “oops.”
