Reply to comment by Kief- in People in DC with a Master's degree make less than the average DC salary? by jdeeebs
That’s not necessarily true. Business school professors make a ton of money. I don’t know about STEM fields. I would bet a starting salary for a tenure-track political science professor is $120K+ in DC, not bad either.

I hate it but what I think I hate even more is when your college friends become influencers and try to sell stuff to you 🤮
The only social media thing I like right now is "defluencing" i.e the people that say "x, y, and z are overhyped and not worth your money"

Definitely nothing new and those kids that it was happening to back then are parents now. It's a shame that people don't learn.

Tons of people in their 20's and 30's subsidized by old money working in sectors that don't pay a lot. You'd take that 49k salary if your dad was paying for your rent, phone and car too.

People were definitely getting hurt for coats and shoes back in the 90's and even as a child I thought it was dumb to keep wearing that clothing.
Fast forward nearly 30 years later and I still don't wear clothes like that. I actually forgot how I got like that but this post reminded me of it.
Also, people use the term "victim blaming" entirely too much. No matter what a person does it considered wrong to say it's wrong and that's wrong in itself.

This is the correct answer. Call the Human Rescue Alliance each time. Take pics if you can. If you only call when things are bad they're gonna think it's isolated.

You could have just posted the link and stayed helpful instead of leaning into “I think I’m so much smarter than you” territory. Did your extra little comments make you feel better about yourself? Like what even is the point?

You know who this never happened to? The kids who customized their shoes. Kids today should put their favorite patches on the sneaks with heavy duty fabric glue - looks cool, and thieves won’t want them after that

There is a product called SprayShield made for this type of situation. It is a citronella spray that comes in a pepper spray style dispenser. It is safe for dogs, but repellent because they don’t like it.

To add some context, in the late 1980s stealing shoes and jackets was common place in DCPS. Like actually in school. Yes weapons were involved.

Can the data explain the usefulness of the degree? Or, the industry the person works in? Or, the applicability of the the persons degree in the industry?
Lots of useless fluffy degrees out there. I’d be interested to know what you find.
