Adams Morgan is fun. Just be prepared for drunk people, a lot of drunk people. Every night is a Friday night in Adams Morgan. If you're staying at The Line Hotel, you're in for a treat, it's very nice.

Because of all the drunk people, I'd suggest Uber-ing there and back after dark. Or just go into Dan's Cafe, get hammered and join the crowd.

Hi friend! I promise DC is not that scary. Of course bad things can happen anywhere, but if you exercise reasonable caution (don’t yell on 14th street about how many hundred dollar bills you have in your wallet) you will be fine.

Depending on where you are from there might be more homeless folks out and about, some who will be having some mental health issues or may be asking you for money. Be kind, but hold your boundaries.

Remember that most people are just going about their business and are actually pretty decent. Mind your own business, be friendly, and if someone yells at you on the street near the Chinatown metro— ignore them.

Consider talking to a therapist about your anxiety to work on coping skills.

Try to enjoy yourself. Go to a museum. Walk along the National Mall. I love it here, and I hope you do too.

Be street smart as everyone said. Don’t go out late late night and you will be fine. Enjoy the free museums, national monument tours (I recommend trolley tours as you will hit all monuments within 2 hours), and get some good food. Weather can be random so have a jacket with a hood in case it rains. Buddy system if you still feel unsafe.

I'm saying this with sympathy for your concerns: Oh, for Christ's sake.

You're likely to have a seated homeless man ask you for change. You may see someone jump over the fare gates if you take Metro. You will likely be asked by a screen to add an 18% tip on a fast-food order, which should be a misdemeanor.

This is not Medellín in 1989.
