Mom - you not only got great advice for your daughter; you did a public service for all women traveling metro. I never thought about being trapped sitting near a window; now I will definitely reconsider where I sit.

Best advice I can give your daughter is that she has no obligation EVER to be nice. She needs to do whatever is necessary to be safe. And that includes refusing to engage in conversation with someone, walking away, calling the police, or shouting for help.

I am so sorry this happened to her. I am so awed by your approach.

Unrelated to vouchers, but I looked at an apartment in that building in 2019. The rent was really cheap (for CP)...turns out it was really cheap because it didn't have a kitchen sink. The apartment employee said the last tenant would run to and from her bathroom sink to cook. How tf is that legal?

(In retrospect I probably should have reported it but it didn't dawn on me to do so)

I agree with this entirely. I remember being single at 28 after a 7 year relationship. I was so awkwardly aged for everyone. People in their early 20s saw me as old, people in their 30s saw me as too young for anything serious. People my own age where I lived were often grad students with little life experiences because all they'd done at that point was being in school, and we had nothing in common. I legitimately had a 22 year old call me a puma because I was like a "young cougar" at 28. I did not enjoy dating and often felt bad about myself.

In my 30s now and things are much better. 30-40 things even out a lot more, there are less extreme differences in lifestyle and maturity in this age range, so 30/39 is totally reasonable whereas 20/29 would have been a lot more weird.

Ok. So, the Whole chicken with fries(!) was a win with our kids. My wife who is West African also liked the chicken enough to want to know the spice. My chicken & Jollof was very good. Would order again in a heartbeat. I was particularly pleasantly surprised by the plantains. Most places don’t do them right and they come out greasy. These were perfect. I had to stop my kid from eating them. My wife ordered the Jollof and snapper. I was amazed they were able to fit a whole fish in that takeout box. They did by bending the tail over and it looked great. Here I will be a bit critical- perhaps a bit too critical. We get better fish at our home on the eastern shore. IMO it’s hard to get really great fish here in DC. It was good- good enough that she had seconds the next day- but not what we are used to. We will definitely order from here again. The chicken and rice and pepper sauce were all big wins.
