My friend who’s a teacher at KIPP DC just told me her admin announced that they would no longer be supplying paper towels, Kleenex, or Clorox wipes. Where is all of this money going if they allegedly can’t even keep their classrooms stocked with disinfectant during a pandemic AND flu season AND RSV?

Nowhere in the article did it explain why so many new apartments in DC and across America are small studios/1BRs - because we require access to two stairwells (despite the fact that it doesn’t improve fire safety).

Have you ever noticed that all new buildings are like hotels in that all apartments open into a hallway, while in old, walk-up style buildings the door was basically in the stairwell? It’s this same regulation. It’s not like this in any other country, and it makes our housing much more expensive while also making it virtually impossible to build family-sized apartments.

I didn't know who Charles Koch or these foundations were before I joined. I was a new graduate looking for work at the time and found Stand Together. At the time, was the only place that gave me an offer (soon found out that I was the lowest paid on the team too!). I suspected many employees there didn't subscribe to the ideology. Only in Americans for Prosperity did I see them really fully believe.

Man, who could have possibly predicted right wing organizations dedicated to making the rich richer and eliminating all social safety nets and worker protections would be a shitty place to work?

Has there ever been a white working class neighborhood in DC? Serious question. Maybe late 19th century? Georgetown and its shipyards and mills were a separate city until 1871. Even then it was in a state of decline, at least from a commercial perspective. DC didn’t crack 100K in population until the 1860s.

DC grew rapidly in the first half of the 20th century, but what was the breakdown between blue and white collar population growth? I’d suspect if was more the latter than the former.

I mean, nobody's forcing you to buy this particular shitbox of a condo.

There are similar sized condos in the city for half the cost. I personally think that one has a much more livable layout anyway.

You could buy a rowhouse for the same price and actually pay less since there's no condo fee.

Shit, you could even buy a single family house with a yard if you don't mind the appliances being a little dated.

No need to go to Laurel or Fredericksburg, there's plenty of stuff in DC more affordable than $600,000 "one bedrooms" that are actually studios.

Oh, you are a serious and actually bothering the understaffed Arlington Cemetery staff who focus on making sure our fallen heroes receive a proper and dignified burial? I'm sure Sec. Austin will get right on that.

Yikes. You might want to move to somewhere like North Dakota, just avoid the area near Minot AFB.

Going northbound on Wisconsin, turn right into Chevy Chase Collection. You won’t be entering a parking garage. You’ll see signs outside Sushiko/Capital One that day 10 min parking. Park there. She will walk up escalator and turn 90 degrees to the right and walk 25-30 steps and see you.
