I just looked up one of the listings there. Holy shit, $600,000 for a railroad 1br apartment with a glorified closet for a bedroom. With condo fees you're paying over $4,000 a month for that trash.

But hey, what a location! You're close enough to hear the fights over dice games in front of Big Ben!

It’s totally rational to assess risk and decide if the dangers outweigh the benefits. There is a demonstrable risk, which seems to be getting worse. Just about everyone seems to know someone else who’s been robbed or beaten and thus it’s not crazy to think “it could happen to me.” Some people have a higher tolerance for the risk, like presumably most of those here down-voting any hint of caution in an environment that can be quite hazardous.

Who exactly is being forced to make sacrifices?

Did I miss the headline where Bowser is sending jackbooted thugs to grab you out of your home and throw you into a studio apartment and shooting those who don't comply?

I don’t necessarily think the height limit is the only thing that makes downtown feel sleepy. There seems to be a lot of street level property that is closed off office space, windows for more office space, or other dead uses. We need more street level activity happening. Yes, there need to be people above to support it, but some of the properties create entire dead blocks in some areas.

Anybody who complains about noise in the city needs to move out of the city. Sorry I just don't think this city thing is cut out for you. Just because you paid a silly amount of money for a small apartment doesn't mean you or anyone else gets to own outside. Yeah it sucks that your quiet time is not respected but complaints like that are what suck the soul and culture out of cities.

>The Project Manager: Very stressed out. Very busy answering email.

Eeek. Suddenly made me remember the project manager I had a couple of jobs ago. She worked remotely most of the time and everyone dreaded the days when she was in person at the office. She was bad enough to deal with on the phone. She insisted that she be CC'd on EVERY email that anyone in my group sent to anyone at the agency or to each other. She got bent out of shape one day because she said I hadn't notified her about something. I replied that I'd sent her an email about it. She then acted as if it was absurd to expect her to have seen my email because "I get over 200 emails a day!"

I thought that it just *felt* to me like this woman was yelling when she talked, even on the phone, because I just hated being around her so much. But one day one of the legal assistants, who sat several offices away, asked "Why is she always yelling? It stresses me out and she's not even talking to me."
