The crime in DC is definitely concerning, but I've never felt too unsafe to walk around the city and have a good time. I live in Arlington but go into DC often--I just try to remain situationally aware.

You make the mistake of confusing “recent, temporary dc” for old dc. You have no fucking clue what old dc was if your version is a happy carefree city for you to happily skip around at any hour of the night.

"Chef inspired kitchens", yeah, inspired by a chef that wants you to eat out at a restaurant.

How much do you pay? I’m curious as 2 cleaners have now quoted me 130 for that size apartment which seems a bit high but I’m no expert.

“If only we could make DC like every other single city in America.”

If the city wants a more dense and residential downtown, they could institute height minimums for new buildings to max out the legal height now, and convert all those ugly offices into apartments instead of trying to encourage the feds to end work from home.
A business district isn’t a thriving community; a community is.

Yes. And I like the height limit. The most humble roof has a decent view.

Old DC was a much more violent place.
The DC of the Obama years did seem more chill though. And post-COVID DC is weird in a bad way.

Lol that's not right. Some people will still want to live in cities. The issue is cities aren't working hard enough to encourage people to choose to come live there.
Why are cities like London, Paris, NYC appealing places to live? Because those cities have diverse economies that have any kind of thinks you want. DC could be a small version of those large cities, it has cultural attractions, the zoo, nature nearby. The city has a pretty good food scene as well. There are areas yet to be improved and good leaders look for ways to improve

You order two steaks, one bleu, one well done. And a triple martini served in a pint glass. When you’re served the steaks you throw the well done one on the floor with flourish and and you declare - “eetz for ze dogs!!” And then you slake your thirst with a pinky raised, of course, and finish your martini in one gulp. Slam it to the table and again declare “another!” It’s called a power move, look it up.

I had COVID 4 months ago. I got my booster in December. I'm supposed to be immune! Alas... This sucks, again, but not as bad as last time, so I've got that going for me.

Look, there are plenty of older apts in Cleveland Park, Cathedral Heights, and even Kalorama that are bigger and cheaper than these new builds in Noma. They just don’t have fancy game rooms and in unit laundry (usually in the basement).

I’m a weirdo and love going to building websites and looking at their floor plans. I always thought the barn door rooms was a step up from a studio, but agree that renting that as a 1 bedroom, when there isn’t even a window, is lame.

Yea I get Hill East is different thank Carver Langston and hard to really know from a snapshot from Aldi or Hecinger Mall. You need to live in the community to know it.

DC does seem to require a busking permit, if Im googling properly, or at least a permit to use public spaces like that. Have you tried filing a noise complaint?

Yea, but living in tents on public parks and sidewalks isn't a legal or acceptable alternative. Forgive the crude analogy, but that's like saying "Cooking is difficult and potentially dangerous; it's much more safe and stable to just help myself to my neighbors refrigerator whenever I get hungry".

I’ve seen these referred to as a “junior one bedroom” sometimes (I don’t think it’s industry wide or standard). The name has always sounded kind of funny to me, like it’s someone working their way up to comprehending a bedroom with an out facing window, not the unit trying to downplay the shitty floor plan lol.
