This has been asked several times. If you search the sub, there should be a few helpful previous answers.

I, personally, like the height limit. People can go to Arlington or Baltimore if they want to build higher.

Converts them to housing.
It was a political speech for the sound bites, office to residential conversions are expensive and very rare. The Mayor knows nothing will change, but it looks good to the landlords she is trying to make happy.

You are probably better staying off in NoVa with a car. Parking is expensive in DC. What do you like to do outside of work? What are your priorities?

Was at the police department registering a handgun last week and it was PACKED! So many first time registrations they were two hours behind and that is with appointments required for specific times.
This is what happens when you have crime increasing and enforcement decreasing.
The police aren't going to protect you. You need to take responsibility for your own safety.

Reply to How does DC handle snow? by thereadingbri
Not really great, but better then the south.
Here is the interesting thing about DC. When it snows, most cities want people to stay home and chill out, while the roads get cleared. But no one has the power to shutdown private companies. So you get the mayor on TV say please stay home and some schools close but nothing changes.
In DC, the Office of Personnel Management(OPM) can close all federal offices. This will keep more then half the people who go into DC home. It will keep the roads empty until crews can clean the snow away. It will keep thousands of people from getting stuck in grid lock, it will stop a dozen people from getting in accidents while trying to drive in the snow, and it might even save a couple of lives from those accidents, or from heart attacks of people rushing to clear snow before work.
This has created a scapegoat for every office manager who knows it's right to close the office, but doesn't want to look lazy in front of the boss. So not only does OPM close the federal government, a ton of med to large size companies just follow OPM's guidance. No other city has this type of massive, organized "call a snow day" system.
OPM knows the power they have, and they err on the side of caution, especially with DC on the line of rain and snow so often. If West Virginia and the edge of Maryland is going to get a ton of snow, OPM has to worry about those workers doing the long commute. So they shut down everything in the DC area.
It's cool as an employee, because you get more snow days (assuming it snows, F U 2022/23!) but it does waste a bit of resources on these mixed days.

Outside of OPM, big storms can shutdown the city for a week. When we get 20+ inches the only thing they can do is push it out of a few lanes of the road and wait for it to melt. They don't have the equipment like Boston to haul it away across the entire city. Also, 20 inches is like knee height, but in the city, where 80% of the ground is street, they plow it into the sidewalk, and you end up with 5 foot berms of snow. If you hear about a 20+ inch storm coming, then be ready to hunker down for a week. (good news is this happens like once every 10 years)

Ashburn = as*burn.
What's worst is that they consider it commutable from the rest of the metro region. Like, no, DC's commuting shed is large because people value more space too much, because it minimizes average commute for the metro region, and because you can be mobile in DC after you get off your commuter train/bus. Ashburn is centered between farms (albeit very pretty ones) and ffx; it's much further from the rest of the metro region. You also can't walk to anything once you're there.

you’ve told me all about the people who didn’t fit the description of the person who harassed me, including the “Navajo woman” who I didn’t realize was relevant to this interaction (is that all she is? a nameless person of color? a token for you to offer as evidence of how not racist you are, perhaps? ✨🌻)
edit: to be clear, i’m not asking you to identify anyone. you were the one offering information about your employees.
edit edit: i was just hoping for an apology and a commitment to do better in the future 🌿 i’m sure this can still be reached 🥰

No one also seemed to factor in that community based care would require funding and logistical support. That somehow never materialized. They just cut the institutionalized loose with no resources and no support.

The thing is these homeless people don't own the land they're camping on taxpayers do and they're destroying it. You know there used to be loitering and vacancy laws it's time to start enforcing them. homelessness is a big problem but I have to really ask where are the 2 million illegal immigrants (That have just recently been bused all over the country) being housed right now and who's paying for that when we have Americans on the street.

Okay, but the end game here is the city of DC as we know it and many other cities around the country will cease to exist. Think Detroit 20-30 years ago. Businesses, infrastructure, services, all defunded so folks can WFH from BFE and eat Stouffer’s lasagna everyday.
