The steak moving across the counter and ol boy peeling his face off stuck with me for a long time. I forgot about it until I got to college and took LSD. Then... I remembered.

Sigh, this unfortunately means that the longer we wait to return to the moon, the harder it will be.

I was actually pretty surprised not to find it on TIL already.
(there is at least one Al Naslaa post on TIL from two years ago)

fundamental cooking knowledge?
failing biology?
why would a person not involved in the farming or factory production of corn need to know that popcorn kernals are the result of a distinct cultivar rather than a consequence of corns natural growth and methods of harvest?
where did you think people picked up that knowledge?

It just feels like we're growing more and more distant. Sorry for wanting to stay close!

And airplane! Was rated PG as well. It has boobies! Imagine how excited young me was the first time I saw it

That would be theoretically possible. However, the Sun will reach its red supergiant phase and engulf the inner planets long before the Moon could escape.
Which also provides the literal answer to "when will the world end?" When the Sun feels like it, that's when.

>I'm suggesting that the conversation is heavily nuanced, and that there is a balance of harms here that must be considered.
People had to fight to preserve their language because someone said it's not worth preserving or why waste tax dollars on teaching a dying language that no one speaks when we could use it to teach something else.
There's no balance of harm to be considered when some countries like the US did it to wipe out cultures and their religion as a form of genocide. Some countries are still doing this because they view their language and cultural traditions as the only proper way of doing things.

Most movies prior to 1968 (when the modern rating system was created) have never been officially re-rated, so they'll just be rated "G" regardless of content. Kind of funny turning on TCM, watching stuff like "Night of the Hunter" and noticing it's rated G. A movie the whole family can enjoy!

The fact that a fundamental piece of cooking knowledge is a TIL for someone is either a failing in their biology education or a failing on their guiding forces, whether that be parents or someone else. Different food is different. There's no trick there.

PG-13 didn't exist until 1984. Movies like "Poltergiest" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" were cited as one of the reasons why a rating between PG and R needed to exist.

>Like other great talents who died too young we can only guess at what might have been.
There was a movie a few years back called "The Identical" which was about if Elvis had survived into the 1990s, and as a result, Elvis impersonators weren't really a thing, except for the protagonist who looked a lot like Elvis. According to the director, Elvis would have made mellow rock akin to the Counting Crows.

PG and PG13 are both red flags for a very poor quality movie today. If I'm iffy about a movie and I see it's rated PG13, I'm not going to watch it. Because more often than not it's a terrible movie.
If I'm iffy on it and it's rated R, however, more often than not it ends up being worth the watch and effort. PG13 means they've watered down an R Rated movie to garner a larger audience. IE the upcoming Daredevil movie, which is self admitted to be less violent and "Friendlier to a larger audience". Completely disregarding the fact that what made the show a success is the violence and adult themes.
