I would just explain to him what happened. Whether or not he offers to take the worse one, at least there is no resentment building up- it’s a silly thing but one I think could easily become a Thing if you don’t clear the air.

TIL about the existence of electric fireplaces.
Who do you think will understand the situation and handle it better? You or your father? Do you think it is important for your dad as much as it's important to you?
I personally would let my dad have the one he liked... I don't know, you'll be able to buy another one in the future, I'm sure, and your dad will have something new to brag about it, something that his son indicated for him to buy it and he liked the idea, the hype!
Take care.

Soooooooooo...your car hasn't had issues before now. You receive the notice yesterday, and you immediately assume it is now going to happen?
So either it was always a time bomb and your life was always at risk, or it's honestly a slim chance and and you should just get in line to get it repaired.

I’d give him the good one. My dad’s gone now, but he’s only asked me for one thing, a knife sharpener I’d bought. Giving him anything after all he did for me made me really happy.

Seems easily solvable with a pair of wire cutters and then a trip to the orthodontist the next day to have the wire replaced. Not a trip to the hospital.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that the ball end that unscrews is what was stuck in the braces. How would you get a hold of it to unscrew it?

“Sam, it is apparent to me that “Leo” has the majority of your attention. I fear that you are telling me you’re with Leo when you are actually meeting with another girl. I’m not going to make accusations, but I do want to discontinue our relationship so I can find one where I no longer have to question where I stand.” Or ... “My ok home died so I was going to use yours to take a pic of the cat. A text came through that shed light on your affair. I think it would be best for both of us to separate.”
I personally would take the honest approach.

Manufacturers don't want you to open the hood.
Pulling fuses for diagnostics and troubleshooting purposes is in the official repair manuals.
Example: http://starparts.chrysler.com/tsb/en_us/dto/pbd2/08/00/22/080022dc80c84c7a.pdf, second page.
Whether you are comfortable to play a mechanic, is up to the individual.

Not sure what kind of car you have, but some manufacturers have a clause where if you’re afraid of the potential failure listed in the recall, they will provide a rental at no cost to you and sometimes even pick your car up from your location

I just want to say I wish you the best, and remind you that you DO deserve a genuine partner. It WILL get better, somehow. That is all.

Oh honey, I’m just so sorry. Please don’t blame yourself though OP. I’ve been through something like this, where I basically convinced her that her “just friend” was actually interested in her…
I just didn’t realize the feeling was mutual for her. Oops.
But in reality, the willingness to cheat was already there no matter what you or I did

You didn’t FU. HE did. And as soon as you can, make sure his new bf knows that he’s been messing with a cheater. Something tells me your bf hasn’t said anything about you to him.

There may be more than one. The fuses servectwo roles - to isolate/depower malfunctioning circuits and to deliberately disable certain functions. Latter more commonly used by mechanics for troubleshooting.
If I were in OP's place and had itrational fear that my airbag may explode, I would read the manual and disable the SRS module that controls all airbags by pulling the necessary fuses.
Or have dealer tow it.
