The show is definitely underrated but for me personally, 90% of the appeal of the show was Captain Flint. I absolutely love that character and Toby Stephens phenomenal acting made it an incredibly compelling character. People often say that the first few episodes suck and it takes a while to get good but i was hooked immediately strictly because of Flint. I’m not too interested in anything that doesn’t involve Flint, and given how Flint’s story ended it doesn’t really make sense for him to come back.

As a long time fan, Season 1 to 6 are almost all good episodes, the first movie is good, 7 through 9 are OK, definitely a lot of good ones in there and the second movie and the 2 revival seasons are pretty questionable imo, they probably shouldn't have bothered trying to bring it back

Playing the game makes you care more about the characters because you have to fight their battles for them for a 15-20 hour game.

The show lacks much of a connection since you are tuning in once a week and the threat of infected is not in your face.

I feel sorry for people who didn't play the game and only experienced The Last of Us for the first time with this show because the show doesn't do justice to the source material.

The hopelessness and danger of just walking around places they are not familiar with was barely captured in the show. The only time I felt a horror thriller vibe from the game was the clicker scene in Episode 2.

This sense of brutality, danger and desperation is crucial because without it, you barely feel tension and development between Joel and Ellie and Ellie's wishes to save humanity no matter the cost. Thriugh the journey she saw the world as a truly horrible place and that she wanted her death to mean something by making it better.

The show took away from the gravity of Joel and Ellie's decision in the end. We haven’t seen a full progression of Joel and Ellie’s relationship. The final episode is rushed like the Game of Thrones finale.

He displayed them at times yes, but there are behaviours of his that contradict those. He is able to distinguish right from wrong, he is just miserable and doesn’t give a shit most of the time. He showed empathy when Amber died, when Wilson was sick, when he was with Cuddy, when he was with Stacey and cared for his mother but not his father.

He suffered for years with that pain and became an ass and an addict.
