Podcasts are super easy to produce (comparatively), and they all bank episodes way ahead of time to release slowly week by week, giving them plenty of time to focus on other projects. I doubt the podcast would prevent him from doing other things if he really wants to. He seems like a guy that stays busy all the time.

When his talk show ended, TBS announced Conan Without Borders would continue as a TBS production in the future so I think the HBO show is still in development. I might be thinking of the same interview as you, but I believe there was even a more recent magazine interview he did where he, again, talked about how the HBO show is barely even conceptualized yet.

With how successful his podcast is now, I think Conan probably isn’t in any rush to get things moving for the show. The only thing pressuring him would be he did initially have Team Coco staff take a temporary pay cut while they worked on future plans, but I’m guessing he’s brought them back up to full pay already with the podcast money.

I really think you should give the show a chance. I’m at book 4 currently and I agree that the books are awesome.

But so is the show. I started there and now moved on to the books. It’s a great adaptation and I think season 1 just suffers from a slight lack of budget. At least when it compares to the rest of the show. And it’s a slow start. Not a lot of moving parts in plot yet.
