The first one was kinda hard to describe. Great production value and acting but the script couldn’t elevate it to true “prestige” tv imo. Perry didn’t even become the main lawyer until halfway through. That being said you could tell they were building to something better. If the story is bettered this time it’ll be a huge hit.

I think about this show often, mostly because it gave us Sebastian Stan.

A couple highlights from the article:

-One of the NBC presidents having virtually no recollection or interest in the show.

-The showrunner learning to never compromise from Bryan Fuller. Because Fuller's methods always make for such smooth productions.

-NBC reusing some of the shows abandoned marketing concepts for... The Cape. Fucking lmao.

Blame the distributors for not making more episodes available to critics for review. The most famous case of this is Bojack Horseman. Netflix sent out the first six episodes before the show aired and those are pretty meh episodes. It took a BIG creative leap in the second half of the season. There were critics who when the show came out kept watching and said as much. But if Netflix had supplied them with those eps to begin with, the reviews would have been a lot better.

and my comment was that i wish that they had put more effort into it than they actually had. which they didn't do, "kind of" or otherwise.

btw- why does your father have an audience..? are you orlando bloom's kid?

God, I love the pacing to death. I'm a complete sucker for a slow burn.

But even I, in some of those earlier seasons, was left feeling like..."OK, this is great but let's get to the meat and bones of the Saul story."

Took me a couple seasons for it to really sink in that we were already in the meat and bones and this is what it looked like.

Amazing show IMO. Crazy that they took that character, built that show, and made something on par with its amazing predecessor.

Absolutely. If a streamer made this now people would go wild for it.

Such a weird, cool concept to have gotten made at all though.

For folks who haven't seen it - it's a very loose rework of the story of the biblical David's rise to kingship, set in a sort of monarchy ruled modern US-esque state. Lots of political manoeuvring and weird omens, with Ian McShane as the current king. Somebody declares war on God and means it very literally.

I enjoyed the first season but I suspect a lot of that was because he was more of the hard-boiled PI (which I really like) than lawyer. Wondering how I will feel about it if he becomes more lawyer, less private investigator, or if the investigation part will still be a really substantial part of the story.
