I must admit, I'm only like 4 episodes in.

Waltz is amazing, the other actors aren't terrible, but nothing to write home about either.

The screen writing and dialog isn't that bad either.

But the plot is god awful. The premiss is intriguing, the mysteries are compelling, but i just couldn't get past the fact that the two protagonists don't act like real people. They behave exactly how they have to behave to make the plot move the way the writer wanted it to. Chopping and changing just to make the story.

What I'm talking about is the >!gold skeleton. !<Not arguing that it's a big "twist" or anything, just that it's a big thing about the main character that isn't divulged right away and could be interpreted to mean a number of things -- about Patoff, about religion, about corporatism, about greed and what makes us human, etc.

(No spoilers) The final episode was poorly conceived. Complete waste of time. Ranks with the original Dexter series finale for bad writing.

Which is unfortunate, as The Consultant had some intriguing story twists before falling apart. Did the creatives have a good initial idea? Yeah. And that’s about all.

Banshee is like a soft core porn soap opera. Things happen because the plot needs, its garunteed the main character will bang the new girl that shows up, its way over the top, implausible and sometimes just nonsensical.

But its so god damn entertaining. The action, the characters, the story isn't bad if you can suspend your belief. Antony Star is great and he really helps carry the show a bit imo, as well as Ulrich Thomsen who plays one of the most interesting villains I've seen in awhile.

I think it’s because BCS never got the widespread popularity that Breaking Bad got, and it being a prequel to an awards show darling that trashed its competition had an influence on the voters to give awards to other shows regardless of BCS’s quality.

Thank you so much, buddy 🫂 You are absolutely right and thank you for easing my foolishness very kindly (rare on reddit!). I get the feeling that the cast and crew of the show do care to some degree about being recognised by their peers through these awards, and it’s quite sad to see that mostly they haven’t been. Or at least fully (because you’re right, nominations do count!).

Anyway, long live the Critics Choice Awards! 🤣
