I’ve read the book. That’s why I mentioned Mike’s family’s backstory … though maybe that was in the movie too, I don’t remember.

I know that there’s more backstory there, but at no point did I think “this would be an interesting TV show.” Like I said, I’ll be watching and I’d be happy to be proved wrong. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time. But apparently questioning the premise is a no-no on this one.

This new trend where no show is actually safe anymore is really going to fuck them in the long run with talent and us the audience. Have fun saving those few extra dollars but we'll stop watching or resort back to pirating. Why bother investing any amount of time in new shows when they can be canceled even if they were renewed and popular?

Marty waking up to different parents is part of the narrative of the original story, so yea a retcon, but a retcon that was planned from the start, that was the point.

Flashpoint is totally a retcon, on a massive scale, just with in universe explanation.

Joe Quesada didn’t want Mj and Pete married, so he wrote an in universe explanation to explain why they weren’t, and were never married.

The original question from Op did not specify whether the retcons needed to be diegetic or non diegetic (which I believe is what you are talking about, without knowing the term).
