I'd say you're comparing apples and oranges.

While it's probably not the best term, I would consider Dexter a "fun" show. I'm not watching it because Dexter is playing 4D chess as he attempts to captures the criminal, avoid the police, aid them in a way that does not raise suspicion/get them to follow him, and manage to make it all work while trying to be normal.

Instead, Dexter is working with one of the least competent police forces on film, who wouldn't catch Dexter if he was wearing a shirt that said "I kill the Ice Truck Killer." There are some solid storylines, like season two when he is suspected by a single cop, and everything about Trinity showing Dexter he could potentially have it all are good, they really don't change the fact the series is filled with contrived plot points, and things often work because the narrative needs them to. It's the type of mindless excitement that is enjoyable, even if I wouldn't say season one Dexter is legitimately better than season one Westworld.

> so does anyone knows whats imdb popular tv shows list based on??

It's based off recent activity. This is why Velma is 20, even though a year from now I doubt many people will even remember it existed. The fact a series that ended 16~ years ago is still that popular is beyond impressive.

> while i've never seen anyone watching it or talking about it..

Beyond that, all these things change over time. It would be weirder if the series was still growing/had an extremely active fanbase after the only content added to it in the past decade was the poorly received movie.

#35 on their site-wide list of 236,660 titles 15 years after it finished airing makes it incredibly popular. the majority of the shows above it either recently finished, are still running, are recent releases or are other popular shows.

>Our Most Popular charts use data from the search behavior of IMDb's more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to rank the hottest, most buzzed about movies and TV shows.

this is why 'velma' is #20 with 67,000 votes despite only being popular to hate. 'poker face' is #3 with 11,000 votes. they're both recently released and popular for different reasons

It’s overwhelmingly regarded as the greatest show ever made and it’s constantly watched /rewatched/and talked about. Not sure where you live or if you just got access to the internet but I almost feel like this is a troll post

It's consistently mentioned in peoples lists of favourite TV series of all time.

IMDb probably base popularity on page views or some hidden formula based on page views and frequency/ range of new ratings.

There is less strategy than NFL/American football. I was leading into how NFL's variety and complexity lead to it being a more compelling and entertaining sport moment by moment compared to football/soccer.

There is a lot of strategy in football, but by comparison to American football it is a lot more simple.

One thing they have to change is the ring from in the first elimination. It’s extremely dangerous with the small 1 foot high steel ring. I saw one of the contestant almost got his hand slam on it. Make taller than the people at least like in MMA.
