But you can't prove that they wouldn't have either, and again, it's not really relevant as far as IP law is concerned.

Easier to simply say, correlation does not imply causation.
Same thing with pirating video games or movies or anything else. Can't prove that person would have actually gone out and bought the product legitimately.

It’s a shame that they’ve got easily my favorite hardware. The Kindles really are in a class above the rest. I tried to move from Kindle to Kobo last year, and despite the open source support and bookstore being way better, and something’s in the software better, I found myself gravitating back to the ole Kindle Paperwhite after a few months anyway. And I hate that.

It's incredibly difficult to make the "hurt sales" claim either way because you can always claim that no matter how good sales are that "but for X they would have been even higher" and there's no way to conclusively prove or disprove that.
That said, they don't really have to prove that it actually hurt sales to make their case. The actual legal question at issue hinges on what is and is not allowed under IP law and lost sales are irrelevant to that.

Ah, yes... How many times have I heard an astronomer say, "Damn it! A satellite passed in front of my sensor. Oh, wait... The catalog says it's gonna burn up in three years, not seventeen, so it's OK."?

It's capitalism trying to dismantle free speech into paid speech only, supported with ads and monthly subscription or they take your house

Yes it is, just tiny amounts.

It’s useful for stuff that hasn’t been made available any other way or isn’t available anymore.

Short lived space junk is not the problem and is never what astronomer/engineers talk about when they say space junk is a problem.

Quite possible. My wife and I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and have 13 full sized book shelves. We read a lot :)

I experienced the same exact thing with them. It was absolutely crazy. We had a few people leave our company for Amazon. Looking back at it, I bombed the first interview and I’m kind of glad I did because it would have landed me on their Luna team which I’m almost certain is on the chopping block.

Retail E-books have been a win for publishers, and flat or a loss for authors. And us readers.

I've got a few ebooks from microsoft press. The DRM on the PDF's there is just watermarks. If they ever die I still have my books no extra work needed.
I've also bought from other stores that have at least some outright DRM free ebooks(it seems that it's often up to the author/publisher if it gets DRM).
So it's not like they don't exist. They might not exist for the books you want, or in the format you want but I guess you don't always get everything.

Wait, so you made a claim that progressives were siding with the capitalists, then you hedged to "not all progressives but some", and then when asked for an example, your response is "do your own research, bro"?
Just admit your comment was a supposition based on nothing but what's in your head, dude. This all just makes you look nonsensical.

Internet Archives is fantastic and always earns a place on my phone's home screen. Down with Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers, John Wiley & Sons, and Penguin Random House! John Wiley in particular can suck it after all the money they charged me for text books!

Who? Who are "some"? I'm asking for examples.
