Nice. We are living the dystopian future that I used to read as sci fi. People will be tagged, targeted, and killed by... machines. Sorry. It was a mechanical or software problem - we're working on it... No accountability whatsoever.

What does the value of quoting a chatbot, or what does the improvement afforded by quoting a chatbot, have to do with what should be allowed? What is and is not allowed is an ethical issue, not one of pedagogy. Being lazy and unoriginal is allowed already, this is just a new means of being lazy and unoriginal so long as it isn't also done unethically.

A teacher is still free to give an F for someone who writes an essay full of block quotes to ChatGPT. They're just not obligated to give an F and recommend disciplinary action.

For now. I'll guarantee they lost market share. How many young people can afford their stuff? How many people have decided to just go with consoles that are much more affordable? I wouldn't be shocked if they've all but lost 20 something year olds. Between mining inflation, then covid shortages, then more mining inflation, the market has been unfriendly for close to 10 years.

Biomass took CO2 out of the atmosphere while it was growing. Burning it returns the CO2. Whether it is sustainable, produces other pollutants, and the overhead emissions from harvesting and transportation is another matter.

Solar, wind, and nuclear are not CO2 free. Some emissions occur during their manufacture and maintenance. It is just a lot less than combustion.

"quoting" ChatGPT as a source is also stupid, because it's neither a primary (best) source, or even a secondary source, like a newspaper article.

It's just a random assortment of (mostly correct) information. That's the same reason why academia doesn't currently allow Wikipedia as a source for information.

UKP 1,125/kW all in for wind turbine

Land area per home for a solar farm is 645 square feet. On a rooftop the same installation needs about 300 square feet because you don't need space between rows like a solar farm. Rooftop installations don't use more land since the house is already there.

Enough solar farms for all 25 million UK residences would take up 578 square miles. You wouldn't build that much because there are other renewable sources. If you did, the UK's land area is 94,000 square miles, so about 0.6%

Agrisolar is dual-use of land for solar and agriculture. A common example is grazing sheep under the panels. That reduces the net land usage.

Land-based wind turbines consume about 1% of the wind farm's area, for access roads and the turbine base. They are compatible with other land uses, like farming. Offshore wind turbines consume no land area, of course.

When you think about, the kind of AI we're talking about isn't designed to be accurate, it's designed to make your brain satisfied with what it sees. This is why I think AI is being introduced irresponsibly to average citizens: ChatGPT has disclaimers, but people don't care about accuracy either. It's like a brain hack, a Jedi mind trick to make people think the output is good because it uses what seem like the right words in the right order. It's a confidence man at its core.

As long as the person likes the upscaled photo it spits out, that's all the AI really wanted. It's not going to be a CSI enhancer.

Intel motherboards have a 2 year lifecycle from what I understand before they change the socket size so you won't be getting processor upgrades unless you buy a new motherboard every 2 years. At this point you may as well be buying a whole new PC because you are going to have to buy new ram because by the time you want to upgrade there will be something faster than DDR 5 plus a new GPU and the ram you have from your old PC probably won't be compatible with the new motherboard. Now if you want to upgrade your GPU every 2 years, just the GPU, that is likely doable but you will need to make sure you have enough watts in your power supply for that to work.

If you are gaming you may as well go AMD, the motherboards have a lot longer of a lifecycle from what I hear.

Good documentary on BBC panorama about how we are essentially cutting down virgin trees in Canada, turning them into pellets, shipping them half way round the world, and burning them in the U.K. as “renewable” energy.

We are also subsidising the company doing this to the tune of 1.7million pounds a day. They posted profits of £700million this year
