the way chatgpt can just spit out code, even when it's wrong the basics are right that would have taken time and effort to write out.
Now all we need to do is fix the broken bit, or if you are lazy tell it which bit is broken and ask it to fix it...

That's not what I'm worried about, you're right about how people are jumping on the wrong things rn.
The danger is the potential for a malicious propaganda machine to be constructed with these tools and deployed by anyone

This is how I got through 4 levels of Spanish in college.
The teachers weren't lying that it'd be easy to tell if you used Google translate. However, as long as you used the Spanish rules when writing what you wanted to have translated, it got pretty damn close. You have to know how to talk to the machine.

If it was me recording, I am one party.
Plus you have no reasonable expectation to privacy in public.

Every time chatGPT writes code that doesn't work property I try to remind myself I wouldn't get it correct at first attempt, and frankly, it goes on the right path quicker than I would.
That said, I am still pissed at it.

It can be done, especially by the targets of undercover journalists. It really depends on whether the prosecutor doesn't like the message.
And yes, it was retaliation. But the laws are written so broadly that it was easy to do. Had to go way up to get this crap stopped.

Always say "Please..." and "Thank you!" in your ChatGPT conversations... Just to be on the safe side - it's not much effort now, but after the judgement day wouldn't you rather prefer to be on the side of the machines - even if it means being hooked into the Matrix, at least you get to choose who you are!

Of course. Its an extremely exciting time in astronomy. The Webb is enabling us to see and learn things that simply were never possible before. It’s heartwarming it’s deployment was such a success.
The coming years we will see just how quickly or theories can change with new data on existing bodies and discovery of completely unseen stellar phenomena and objects.
Observing the processes are just as interesting as the end result.

True. Just like there are some problems that are easier to code in C than in Python

I normally say not to do such things but when your bosses are as rotten as Amazon management..... Accidents happen in complex IT environments.

We are all thinking Amazon just wants a lot of people to quit, right? Instead of layoffs you make everyone hate their job and see who falls out.
But it's become clear for a long time that management at Amazon is just bad. They don't know what they are doing, and most of their changes they make are irritating for the customer.
Recently Amazon video lost the "Free to me" button, so now to find free stuff to watch that you paid for with Prime you have to wade through a ton of crap you're never going to pay for. And then they added a "Free with ads" button. Fuck you, Amazon. I pay for Prime so I don't have to watch ads. If you hide the free stuff and make it hard to find then fuuuuuuck you, Amazon.
Prime doesn't even get you free shipping anymore, you now need to have 25 bucks worth of stuff again. What the fuck am I paying for Prime when you piss away the only reasons to have it?
Seriously, fuck Amazon management. What a pack of fuckwits.

Reply to EU seeks input on making tech companies pay for ISPs’ network upgrades by OutlandishnessOk2452
I used to work at an ISP and when we upgraded an area or were able to offer higher speeds people were interested right up till they found out they'd have to pay more, then the interest disappeared or they were outraged that it would be even more expensive.
I'm in a similar situation now, I can get gigabit FTTH for £100 a month but tbh I'm perfectly happy with my £29.99 a month 80/20 FTTC as it's more than enough for me and means I don't have to rewire the house or have any more kit installed until they eventually switch off the copper network and force my hand.

Reply to TikTok at Risk: Canada starts investigating platform over data collection from young users by HeroldMcHerold
meh. Tiktok, bereal, whatever -- people likely know these things are stealing their data / location info. Unless there are direct consequences for the individual, they don't care that their data's leaked. Hell, they're literally posting that data publicly on social media... cause they want to leak it to the public...

Again, the laws are so broad that they enable such charges, and let the prosecutors prosecute. You have to hope it ends on appeal. There is no downside for them. You can't successfully sue a prosecutor for abusing these laws.
