openai has problem meeting demand for what gpt-4 in its current form is capable of. Adding features like pics or videos would create even more strain on the system so even if this model has additional capabilities and it probably does, they simply need some time to make it work for such high traffic

Nothing in the fast scenario is ever good. This sub thinks everyone will adapt as quickly but the vast majority will not because they have not this concept for years and the movies only show them the most negative scenarios.

Your slow scenarios are too slow. I would call 30 years as slow. This is also the best timeline wherein we get to prepare better.

So I think it's slow, adaptive and aligned with slow being 30 years that is best for us. But I think what will happen is fast, adaptive and unaligned

Everyone that owns stock (which is every wealthy person) is always "richer than they've ever been before." That's just how stock works.

If you have 100 billion dollars to give away, giving it away in a lump sum and just absolving yourself of responsibility for how it gets spent is a terrible idea. The whole point of his philanthropic organization is to ensure that the money gets spent as wisely as possible.

Your view of him is wildly inaccurate. How would use a 100 billion dollars to better the world? It's not a simple question to answer.

And you mentioned "unelected." Are you suggesting he should give it to the government and let them handle it? They already have Trillions of dollars, and what are they doing with it? Health care? Education? Or war?

This struck me as funny, “The rise of AI will free people up to do things that software never will—teaching, caring for patients, and supporting the elderly, for example.” But earlier in the article he explains how AI will help teach children math… so if you remove teaching from that list, I’m being ‘freed up’ from my current job to be an orderly or care giver. That is honorable work, but it doesn’t pay well, and I suspect competition for work won’t drive compensation higher unless the AI can help us unionize.

I re watched the matrix trilogy last week for the first time in 12 years. I'm in IT now and it's the first time the plot of the matrix made sense to me. Obviously there are layers of symbolism, but no one ever talks about the literal interpretation of the plot.

The One is a special human that contains the password to reset the matrix. This also grants him access to dev permissions in the matrix, which is why he has special powers. He also must have an organic version of wifi, which is why he can run self destruct commands on machines in the real world. To obligate the One to do a reset, the machines obliterate the human settlement. The One must then travel to the source code repository where the recovery console is accessed. Smith was defeated because neo was attached to the source code repository and once Smith cloned neo, the source did a delete all on Smith and then rebooted the matrix.
