Sure thing.

Are you familiar with I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream?

Rouge ASI could kill us all but a terrible person with an oracle ASI could make a factual, literal - as in flesh, blood & fire - hell on earth. Make people live forever in pain & suffering, tortured into madness and then restored to a previous state, ready to be tortured again.

A rouge ASI that wants us all dead isn't likely to care about humanity at all, we are just a misplace anthill. But we all know terrible people in our lives and the worst person you know is a saint next the worst people in power.

Tldr: we are going to create a genie. In the halls of power there are many Jafars and few Aladdins.

I know people who bitch about people being lazy when they make their money via passive rent from homes they inherited. The only work they do is show up to city council to protest any new housing developments.

I figure the goal of automation/ai is to collapse the price of every necessity, from housing, to food, clothing, energy, and transportation. To where a first world lifestyle can be afforded for some small fraction of today's cost structure.

You will see people working, but you won't see people grinding away their lives to afford the basics. 24 hours a week might sustain a family of four.

It's all a matter of perspective. Freeing people from the drudgery of working on an assembly line for 40 hours a week is one thing. Freeing people from passing their own laws, making health care decisions or policing neighborhoods is an entirely different thing. At some point on the way there has to be a real conversation about the merits of freedom from work vs. loss of self-determination.

most people don't care if you think they're lazy or not, mate.

if you're a house-elf straight out of harry potter, and need to be a slave to find meaning in your sad life. ok, you can continue working after UBI creation, we will not stop you.

but don't try to force everyone to live in a world where work is a necessity. most hate their own work and only work because they have to.

let people be free to decide how they are going to spend their short lives, whether working with something they really like, studying or playing video games all day.

I agree with you and you provide good examples. I would add that we don't even need to look at the past. The present is, already, full of wealthy people who live in leisure all day. At the end of the day, it's silly to think that getting rid of work will be a challenge. It will be easy.

One task that our AI helpers will take on (on top of everything else) is helping us live healthy and stay motivated. They will learn to know us, what we like and can suggest activities, hobbies, outings, trips, foods, songs, movies, books, games, etc. They will also know everyone else and can help us meet other people they know we will enjoy being around.

We will likely feel like there aren't enough hours in a day to do all the cool things we can experience, visit all the interesting places and meet all the people we can have fun with.
