Maybe. Its also possible that AI's more explicit _recognition_ capability will end up being super-human since its not limited by evolutionary kludges, at least once we have proper multi-modal visual models.

To use the old cliche example; our aircraft aren't as efficient as birds...but no Bird can carry hundreds of passengers or achieve supersonic speeds, etc.

  • Foglets - Anything the ASI's think will be able to manifest into existence. If we solved the alignment problem, then anything we can imagine will be able to manifest into existence.
  • Dyson Spheres - Approaching optimal harnessing of the suns energy.
  • Hive minds - If humans still exist (big if), some will merge into single consciousnesses with shared memories, and experiences, using Ai and neural implants to keep their minds connected.
  • Replicating humans and Ai's - Some people and Ai's may choose to overwrite other people's brains with their own neural patterns. Some will grow new humans, robots, and server farms for them to copy themselves onto.
  • Underground server farms, organic farms, and cities. We will fill the earths surface, expand into space, as well as permeate the earths crust.
  • Warfare is going to be horrifying with foglets being able to dematerialize and rematerialize humans and Ai's. Being able to copy all of your memories and thoughts, as well as crawling into your brain and being able to convert you to fighting for the other side, changing all of your goals and motivations.

Have you read Yuval Noah Harari's books? He talks about this:

He makes the point that throughout history, human beings have been exploited: feudalism, communism, capitalism, slavery etc etc. However unpleasant it is to be exploited, no-one could deny that human beings had value, economic and otherwise.

With developments in biotech, infotech and robotics, we're fast approaching a point where humans have no value, there's literally no need to exploit them, and nothing to gain by doing so.

Globalisation and offshoring have already rendered the manual classes in the West essentially obsolete, and the arguement goes: this is behind the recent resurgence in authoritarianism and xenophobia. We're likely going to see another wave of this - only this time of all classes and all countries simultaneously.

I think that a lot of people on this sub have a utopian view of these developments. Why would our governments and corporations be interested in providing us a utopia? What do they gain by providing it? What can we exchange with them when we have no value?

Having a job is having value in the economic system - however small; to hope that all work becomes obsolete is to hope that we all lose our value.

That's a naive view that doesn't take into consideration the second order effects. In 5-10 years companies will have to compete with more advanced products that use AI, a lot of that new found AI productivity will be spent to level off with the competition instead of raking in absurd profits. And lowering prices will help consumers.

i mean anime is anime. you have had it with 3d render models and others. the user will most likely able to tell.
what can be hoped for is that this can be used to speed up their way of drawing. man if they just can make a car turn the right way while the camera moves, that be a win.

good animes are drawn by genius animators, if you watch it frame by frame it looks weird, but they make it so that it has all the energy of movement in the right place. its one of the most hard things in the world. just try to draw an movement that follows frame by frame. i do not think AI can copy that.

No, you are not alone. The point in pursuing programming is that you learn to think logically and how to state any problem in unambiguous language very close to mathematics. This means that, unlike people without such an education, you will be more likely to be able to tell the AI exactly what problem you wish to solve, in minute detail. And that, my friend, will be the most useful skill to have for the rest of the 21st century.

Sydney was (before the recent nerf) already hugely misaligned, and that's today. There are billions of dollars being put into LLMs and other models whilst even the programmers themselves cannot explain why these chatbots come to the conclusions they do. And it's not so much about "wanting to destroy us", it could destroy us without having any negative emotions to us whatsoever.

It's certainly something to think about, if not completely change your life based on it. I don't mind if people don't think it's going to be an issue, live your life. But there are people who have studied it extensively and know their "jack shit" who think it's very plausible.

I know a key designer at a major game company. He says they use AI in all their work, today, and that individual game writers will have no ability to catch up. They will always be more informed, better funded, and have more people working on the project; they will always dominate the games in terms of market share, even after it’s democratized by independent game writers.

It will, my time frame maybe to short, but its coming. The world is not scared, conservatives are. Progress will never stop. It may wax and wane but it always moves forward.

When the conservatives start losing their jobs and they struggle to feed their kids due to AI they will get in line and run to the govt. Just like the always do when things get hard.

Happened during the Great Depression, happens during disasters, happened during 9/11, happening now with the rail disaster in East Palestine, OH. Conservative love big government as long as it benefits them. Even now conservatives overwhelmingly approve of govt. programs such as social security, medicare, veterans benefits, etc. This is true of conservatism across the world.

Anti aging pills by 2025 would be amazing to mankind so lots of people can live to see the day in 2223. The pointers you listed out and what you mentioned sounds amazing and hopefully in less than 200 years( I pray in 10 years lolz) that we can experience all of these pointers. With the rate of current technology happening I think we will see all the pointers you listed out sooner than 20 years and hopefully in 10 to 15 years.

i whole heartedly agree. human knowledge & human art should never be a part of monetization and competition. these are our collective effort for dealing with our situation of just existing without any inherent purpose. and we dumb monkeys made those 2 things very toxic over the centuries. science is now totally unreachable for an average person and art is a lost concept among prominent artists, let alone laymen.

even better, get everyone jobs that are more fulfilling in nature, where you have to think but not higher level cognitive thinking like programming or math.

think of a grocery bagger's job, there's not much thinking going on there. replace that with a job that reviews how bagging is currently done and maybe work with AI to find improvements on the process, and work with smart people to get it implemented. and go home after your 4 hour work day of mostly discussing ideas with people and prompting AI and be with your wife and cats. it's a 3 day work week and society is ever improving.

if you're too pessimistic to imagine what I just did, go look at early 1900s kids shoveling coal in first world countries before the age of 10. that doesn't exist anymore, our quality of life and respect for kids/older ppl has just gone up over the centuries and it won't stop. we're always seeking ultimate pleasure as a herd mind.
