in my opinion there is a huge hype these days regarding this field. its definitely a very powerful tool, but people here forget politics, social sciences, legislation and so on. When something is very dangerous, society takes action to control the risks.

Also, we can always edict new laws to outlaw "antisocial sentiments". Perpetrators will be summoned to "change their neural pathways" if they had a lil bit too much murdery thoughts lately.

yes, my reference model is the scandinavian. And I was referring about implementing it in other western countries, like US or Italy (where I am from). I think USA and Italy and an average contemporary developed country would be ready to embrace such a political system.

I'm pretty sure psychopaths in high places will be curious to know how it feels to be "good". So they will try the treatment, and bam! too late bro, you're a decent loving human being now and shall redistribute your wealth.

Indeed, it is the abstraction of value.
It seems that the set of all the different representations of what money could buy, is just influence…
Funny thing is that, you don’t have to spend money to gain influence, just to show it.
I find it quite ironic :-)

I agree with this point. Also there was early Christianity whose beliefs were very close to what you would like to achieve. The question is in the other thing: we can not get rid of competition and supremacy from human nature. Unless the totally new biology or robotic bodies is invented, let's assume we can't. So it is natural to fight, kill, extort, rape etc. It is ugly, it is irrational to some point but it exists. The ideal solution from my point of view would be the society of equal opportunities where everyone understands everyone other's motives. But the ruling class will never allow this, because of supremacy loss. In fact, they have no other source of feeling supreme other than keeping others low. What can we do about it? A provoking question, but answering to it will answer your question as well.

The people behind openai specifically are not hippie CEOs though. Usually the hippie CEOs spawn up independently, kind of from their own bubbles. Openai came out of the same hyper-growth venture capital world as facebook, airbnb, ycombinator, and others. And it's not that it was made by some founders that then went through accelerator programs, it was founded and pre-funded by those executives. That's why it's so weird that people are celebrating that aspect of it.

Whether some people have developed a possible trigger for the singularity or no, the singularity itself hasn't happened because if it had we would be scurrying like rodents around the virtual feet of intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, if we even still existed in corporeal form.

yeah but singularity could indeed happen right after AGI. Once it can self-improve the innovation rate could go crazy fast almost instanteneously.

"Infinite resources" can also be simulated through full dive VR. Frugal life in the real world, live like a King in the Matrix.

ok I have some counter arguments:
The inventor of the smartphone did not ever say that smartphones can end humanity
There were never electrical engineers qualified and famous openly stating that their field can end humanity soon

Yes, any job which one would describe as "grueling" falls in the category of jobs that people only do because they're paid. These should always be phased out because it's a net gain for everyone as long as there's UBI.
The jobs that we should be more worried about are the ones you listed such as musical composition and directing. These are jobs that people genuinely enjoy and would enjoy even if they weren't paid. Automating these is always a double-edged sword because while there's a productivity gain, there's also a "meaning of life" loss.
The objective metric of unemployment is the unemployment rate, which is still low. We don't need UBI until that becomes very high.
Edit: Actually it also depends on wages. Due to wage stagnation I guess you could make the case we need UBI already.
CertainMiddle2382 t1_ja80jd2 wrote
Asking that in a Singularity channel is a bit ironic :-)
The very meaning of Singularity is that soon, something will come and make the future world incomprehensible.
Im very biased and I can’t find a way for AGI not to “quickly” devolve into computronium+von Neumann probes+hopefully virtual existence for us in that mess lol
IMO, computronium maximization is the very nature of self improving AI and anything different will require a huge (insurmountable?) effort.

The idea that work will disappear requires complete automation and redistribution of resources: post-singularity would still not mean "infinite" resources, so likely some credit/quota system will be used to distribute resources, the physical and simple works will of course be automated, but many high-level fields like math research/programming/science will likely to grow explosively if aging/stress/routine was eliminated.

It is quite easy to know for a trained archeologist if a society was egalitarian or autocratic. The way houses are built and situated, if there are palaces, segregated neighborhood, military barracks, etc. The ones I mentioned had none of that.

Another answer : our version of Aristocracy emerged from the will to cheat Death, to be "immortalized" as someone who accomplished great things, like killing millions of people. If we actually manage to cheat death biologically, once humanity greatest enemy defeated, the idea behind supremacy will be completely changed.
