I'd be happy with it just running on my home computer's GPU, I could use my phone as a dumb terminal to talk with it.
This is amazing. I keep telling myself I shouldn't underestimate AI's breakneck development pace, and I keep being surprised anyway.

Has anyone read ‘The Unincorportated Man’? OP’s post made me think of this book and where VR may take humanity.

All I want is to explore the universe, Bobiverse style.
In a Neil deGrasse-Tyson Cosmosian space ship.
A ship that can camouflage, shape-shift, adjust size and time travel.
Only limit to adventure being the imagination.

well im not going to say, "when ai is smarter than all humans ever", "when AI becomes super intelligent", or "the moment ai becomes so smart we just don't ever know what will happen." those r lame answers

My friend Fred says that programming languages will be 10x faster than now because they would have better compilers. I think graphene will arrive in computer chips. Some things will improve a lot, others less so. I am hoping for neuromorphic hardware and spiking neural networks in a decade, but we'll have to wait and see.

It’s not a matter of taking pity, it will just be the safest option and there won’t really be much of an incentive not to. In the long run they would be forced to give up power though if technology became more decentralized.

They didn’t say they were a GI, cut them some slack.

I hope you're right.
Do you think they will take pity on us and give us stuff for free when we're all unemployed and they automated all of the supply chain?

There’s no incentive and most rich people are not psychopaths, even if they somehow managed to accumulate all that power with no one else challenging them most of them wouldn’t suddenly decide to become comic book supervillains.

this is mostly solved already actually. All of the large image generation tools are also image _recognition_ tools, and some of them can explicitly do image-to-text as well where they can highly accurately describe an image fed to it. We just haven't seen this capability impact any consumer markets yet outside of image generation, presumably because the inference for these AI models needs a lot of compute.

The LM's side is starting to catch up to image generation models, and soon voice generation/synthesis will follow.

its where the geniuses are. this is more a filter test to see if this subreddit is still intellectually sound. my hopes weren't that high to begin with

Isn't computer vision pretty complicated too? To my knowledge most of what we have there is face detection and moving object detection (person bike car truck) for self driving cars. I feel like the understanding-of-what-every-object-is required for a humanoid robot to help for home chores is still also kinda far away.

Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s the idea that Trump’s presidency was the worst thing that’s ever happened in the world. The reality is he was a bad president but people make it into a way bigger deal than it actually was.

That’s not a definition of singularity but it is almost certainly what will cause singularity… I guess you’re right about some people on this sub not knowing what singularity is.

Because…that can’t happen. So, like I said, everything that can happen, will happen.
