I came for the discussions about AI and I stay for the cringe.

You must consider the vast majority of the people who are not creators, illustrators, artists.
For a person like me, who since kindergarten can't draw anything but stick-men, Midjourney is a God-send.
My workflow is: Midjourney for the main picture, Dall-e inpainting for some corrections (eg. hands), GIMP for the tiny details and Topaz Photo AI for the upscale.
With this I can create beautiful pictures for my toddler, things that until 6 month ago I could never imagine.

It's not necessarily just the amount but also the type of hate.

People are understanding llama, it's capable of running on consumer hardware that many are likely to own, the future is coming fast.

Yup. I think if anything this shows it probably wasn't individually programmed to respond to particular things and is just making its judgements based on the hate that it sees in its data.

Meta's dataset is facebook/IG's content. And facebook is pretty much hate, misinformation and idiotic bullshit. No shit it's meaner...

Exactly. It may just mean that it's more familiar with hate directed at some groups than others because of how it plays out in the real world, so it's more likely to perceive hate against groups who are often the target of hate as malicious.

It that important? The spatial borders are the reach of your control.

Though I agree, I'm not sure it was obvious before having some other forms of intelligence to compare to.

The best thing is this can run on a single GPU (the smallest model)

OpenAI was also using Google forms before the Microsoft investment increased.

The training data is massive and usually not carefully curated because they need so much of it.

Sure there is.
- Don't jump off a tall building
-Don't submerge yourself in water until you are dead
-Don't stand on top of a hill with a metal pole during a thunderstorm.
-Don't stick your hand into a fire.
Among many more I don't care to list. Just because there is the occasional person who defies common sense doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
The majority of people are not racist or bigots. It is common sense not to be one. Only fools, idiots, or malevolent people are racist or bigots.

> How often have the richest people in the world said they don't need more? They get into that position by never having enough.
Except that is greed, rather than a genuine need for more money

By that definition, when AGI becomes a thing you’ll be saying we programmed every aspect of it too. Not true.

It kinda does.
We defined the training data, the utility function, etc

That still doesn’t mean that humans programmed everything the LLM’s do.

If you actually read through the chart, you’ll recognize that there’s not a heavy “left-wing bias” - e.g. “democrats” are less protected than “rightists” and “right-wingers”; meanwhile “liberals”, “leftists”, “right-wing people”, and “evangelicals” all rank around the same.
Overall, the model clearly goes further to protect innate characteristics - especially those most commonly targeted by hateful rhetoric (disabled people, Black people, gays and transgender people).

I still have more faith in open source AI like this: https://github.com/LAION-AI/Open-Assistant Open source will be the key to creating uncensored language models (LLMs).

Maybe making fun of disabled people is worse than making fun of wealthy people, maybe disabled people will get actually upset and have mental issues if you make fun of them? Maybe even if you make fun of a wealthy white person they will soon forget about it and continue their trip to a private island on their private jet? Maybe making fun of gay people has a history that includes discrimination and abuse, even jail and murder? Maybe making fun of white people does not have the same history? Maybe ChatGPT is actually right on some of those? Maybe if you have all the power people should be able to make fun of you? Maybe if you have no power at all people should not be able to make fun of you?

>I think they *think* they know more than they do and are dismissing it based on their prior experience with AI tech.
I've encountered this on reddit.
They'll say "i'm a programmer who has worked with AI before, and therefore..." and it's always wrong. AI has changed drastically in the last 6 months and anyone using it before then has no clue what it can do now.
