My project is an implementation of the "cognitive architecture" approach to intelligence. It postulate that what's missing to get to AGI is not only scale (OpenAI's current approach), but a layer of logic and memory. David Shapiro makes a better job than me of explaining this approach on YouTube if this is interesting for you

I work in tech as a career software developer and I'm finding that my non-tech friends and relatives seem to have better intuition about the significance of what we're seeing and where things are going. My co-workers seem uninterested and don't get it.

This surprises me and I don't have a satisfying explanation for it.

I think they *think* they know more than they do and are dismissing it based on their prior experience with AI tech. That's my best theory.

Yeah why not, an example would be using A.I with semantic search. So much easier than writing an “actual” search engine yourself.

Just be aware that your business should not just be centred around the model, because if your business == model then what kind of a MOAT do you have really.

Any kid can use an A.I to randomly hallucinate a fix to an issue, but it’s how you utilise the model and present it in a unique way that solves the problem consistently with a good user experience that makes all the difference.

back in 19th century, places that rejected railway due to XYZ reasons ended up decaying while the ones got hooked on rails became booming towns, lasting to today. e.g. railway in Taiwan, in Siberia etc. the cities actively rejected rails passing thru them soon after declined and its place got replaced

if SF want to be the next, so be it.

Not really that more efficient nor effective unless you add a relevant part done by foot plus delays. Buses are really bad and slow compared to taxis even in best scenarios.

Also disagree with the "recreating traffic" argument. More people would use public transportation thanks to mini buses with self driving.

Saying web3 is dead is the same as the OP complained about, people claiming AI isn’t going anywhere. We’ve only seen the early stages of a lot of disruptive technologies, metaverse/web3 included.

One thing that does happen though is that we get investment bubbles where VCs jump into the latest trend to try and be first, and those first waves of speculation always pop. But that money that VCs have thrown in does contribute to the development of that area as an industry.

A lot of VCs won’t make anything from AI, web3, additive manufacturing, blockchain etc, but their funds would have been used to push those things forwards.

You are right in their behaviour - if VCs are all shouting about something, then it may be better to look the other way, because by that point they are scraping the barrel on good investments trying to get in on the hype. The industry/tech itself can still be a legitimate, disruptive industry as a whole.

We're the ones who collectively built it, and we can take pride in its accomplishments. Like a parent being proud of their children.

We can feel good about having created sentient AI. What other creature has created AI that we know of? Only us. We've done this amazing thing.

We've used crude tools to make better tools etc, and done this so well that now our tools are sentient.

The problem is that they are dropping apples. That will make them rot quickly, thus they won't be suitable for sale to supermarkets, they could only be used for things were apple itself is consumed, like making juice.
