If you can't imagine what an actual AGI would be like and what their effect on society would be (nobody can accurately predict that of course), then you cannot make this claim about profits.

What if the AGI decides it likes OpenAI and thats the company that should get the first sci fi level fusion reactors. When talking about AGI you just cannot seriously make this kind of a prediction imo.

It’s mostly a wild guess. I don’t want to be too optimistic to the point to where I’m delusional or out of touch with reality like some people in this community thinking it will happen in a couple years or something.

I think AGI can be accomplished by 2030 and then the next 10+ years after that is anyone’s guess.

But like I said the sooner the better and I like to be proven wrong.

Duh, of COURSE it does. That's the price of the progress. The less people's destructive potential is limited by the lack of technology, the more it has to be limited by the other means. And Singularity is gonna increase the people's destructive potential tremendously.
If we'll make Aligned ASI and ask it to make decisions for us, I doubt it will find any non-totalitarian solution.

The problem with it has to do with corruption. There's always someone wanting to get around the controls and have exceptions made. That ugly head of capitalism shoving it's way through a tiny hole.

Capitalism IS the defacto system in use by all first world countries. Even China is gripped in it's fist.

Until we can get to a resource-based economy, we'll have to work within capitalism to solve the problems presented when a UBI is introduced. Consumption is a tenet of capitalism and that'll still need to happen.

UBI won't stop people from working. We'd all need to find something we CAN do that someone will pay us money for. I feel pretty good about my role, but I'm almost ready for retirement, so I'm not as worried as I would have been in my 30's....

Yes, the only real question is when, the if is hardly contested anymore.

It all depends on the speed of progress in the AI field. What many people don't think about is that scientific progress is exponential, so it could come from very far off to on your doorstep pretty quickly. There is not a small amount of very prominent AI scientists that predict an AGI (Artificial general intelligence), an Ai that can do everything a human can do, by 2030. Only time will tell though.

Deleting the post because people are getting mean and personal about this on a level I’m not comfortable with. I might have been a little testy because this is directly affecting my livelihood but the intent was to genuinely see people’s different takes on this, not resort to name calling.

It's a game changing tool, a company that needed ten artist will probably only need two. If you are posting on instagram, it means ten times the competition.

If you want to stay relevant, either become an expert with the new tool or change to a medium that isn't affected (sculpting painting, etc).
