AGI comes in combination with things like 3d printing, etc. which would bring manufacturing and other costs down, so rent and house prises could go down. you're right that people would likely still compete over *luxury* things as their basic needs are met, but thing about exponential growth in technology is it can make luxury items become widespread like internet/smartphones would be considered a luxury once open a time but now everyone is expected to have them. once you have robots building everything without human labour, mass production becomes easier. the main issue will be the amount of natural resources available

This is partly on the corporations themselfes, everyone wants to hire the experts, but no one wants to train them. Quantum computing, cybersecurity and AI barely have a field of study or any university courses, or at least not on a level where it would be relevant for companies that pioneer those fields. There isn't a skillgap, there is a gap in the willingness to train people in those fields because it costs a lot of money.

You can't really teach a lot of this stuff at universities because by the time you finish your degree, the stuff you learned is allready mostly obsolete. For comparison, a degree in computerscience specialized in AI you finished in 2016 is absolutely and completely worthless now in the current AI industry, none of the stuff you learned has even a bit of relevancy anymore.

This is also caused by the ever accelerating pace of scientific progress. For example in AI, there are no experts outside of the teams that actually work on projects like GPT-4 or whatever google is doing. Anyone and everyone who actually knows their stuff works for the AI companies. those who do not have mostly outdated knowledge because a knowledge gap of just two years is gargantuan in that field.

This are just my two cents though, so take it with a grain of salt. My only real source for this is the internet and a friend who works in cybersecurity. He told me one of the biggest issues they have is, if he wrote a book on cybersecurity and how to truly secure a server, 6 months after it got published, most of the information would be obsolete because people would have found ways around it or found holes in systems that were considered secure by the time the book was written. Training someone the conventional way in cybersecurity would be like showing up in Ukraine now with WW2 tanks after he finished his degree. Even with a degree they will still need years of training in the specific field they want to work in. i'm not saying degrees are useless in those fields, they are just the starting point and training someone with a masters degree for 5 years before he even becomes actualy usefull is pretty expensive, an expense a lot of companies do not want to make, they want to hire the pros from other companies that have already been in the field for years because it's cheaper.

It's the common problem of entry level jobs need 5 years of experience. Some fields are hit pretty fucking hard by this problem.

TL:DR: Everyone wants to hire skilled personel, nobody wants to train skilled personel.

I think, for a time, especially with any country that enacts UBI, a vast majority of the population will become enormously depressed as they try to find things in their life of actual meaning or value, instead of attributing those things to work. I imagine that will eventually pass, but I can see suicide rates skyrocketing during that time. I know far too many people whose only self-perceived value comes from the work they do. Hell, my own father thinks his purpose in life is to work and eventually die on the job. I hate to think what UBI would do to him.

No, I dont think you understand. When there is UBI, there won't be dirty jobs, or at least not for long (the transition period is the tricky part). The point of the need of UBI is that there won't be jobs, because society will be automated.

There also won't be out of control inflation from human greed, because there won't be human run businesses (potentially). The traditional store front with a business owner will be gone - out competed by a ubiquitously cheap AI run, robot staffed, food service.

But the remainder of your negative perception seems to come from a belief of the irredeemably corrupt nature of people. If you truly think this, this would also be an admission that you yourself would behave this way if given the chance.

Totally agree. I also hope that by then we have celebrities (let’s say philosophers, scientists etc) that can help us transition through that difficult period. If the media landscape doesn’t change until then I’m a bit worried that we’ll have people that use this crisis of meaning to their advantage.

Thank you :)! It’s my favorite part of the text. I really hope that universities become this discussion hub of intellectual discourse again. Currently they are just so under pressure to educate the next workers.

That’s as far as I’m concerned how it used to be (at least for the upper class and not slaves) in the early beginnings of the great Greek philosophy age.

They discussed those fundamental questions of human existence and even exercised with each other lol

I have an example I don't know if it's accurate - some people are tired of the progress bar loading, so decide not to look at him for a while, after distracting, he feels that he "made the progress bar speed up" - this is obviously not caused by his will, But in line with his expectations, it gave him the illusion that his will "worked".

I think you can already kind of experience it honestly. If you've ever been caught up in a mob mentality situation, where things are happening fast and you have hundreds of people on Reddit reporting stuff as fast as they find it, and you are scouring dozens of threads an hour and reporting info you saw others report etc, you can quickly feel like a part of a collective. You don't feel like you have any direct control, but can definitely feel your own impact as it steers and goes in a certain direction

Now the downsides of our limited version is misinformation spreads like wildfire and the truth can't catch up, but with a gestalt it would be the opposite where misinformation starts and then someone else debunks it and it instantly stops, or it hits a point where the individual parts make their own decisions on which side is right based on the info available

I'm not sure that would really be a bad thing in a sense, but you would also be able to regain identity by being separate from the gestalt for a while then coming back to bring back your experiences and adding them to the greater whole.

You could likely also just chose not to fully sync with the entire collective since that would probably be way beyond a single brain anyway.

In most Sci-fi the collective as a whole form up a greater collective that is kind of the overmind, where as the individual members can still be fairly separate and make their own choices etc, and will only sync when they are in emotional distress or need advice or assistance beyond their own experiences

Arguably we already form a very rudimentary one when we converse with someone. We don't actually experience their consciousness, but we listen to the words they say and try to form a simulation of what they are experiencing (empathy) the thing is, it will always be warped and through the lense of our own previous experiences, and we have the option to turn it off (stop conversing).

A hive mind would simply be an extension of this, although I'm not sure if one would lose themselves in the hive. I think we would need a few decades to experiment with this, I know there's plenty of people whose consciousness I would certainly not want to share.

With your homies joining in for a communal circlejerk

Honestly, cults apparently have the best orgies, so I guess on that front, a horny hive mind would probably be pretty lit, and you would have first hand experiences for fetishes waaaaay beyond anything you considered.

As degenerate as you are, remember, there's always some more depraved
