UBI will (actually it won't) enable you to just survive. The trips to other countries you mention won't be possible because that's not basic income type stuff. You will get a studio in a iffy part of town after the rents go up to compensate for the flush of money. Inflation will eat away any left over cash because now everyone will have money for food...but what do you classify as "basic" needs? shelter/food/toilet paper.....Cable TV is not basic. A cell phone is not basic. A car is not basic (you are living in a city with public transport?)

By the way....Does everyone get this UBI? I mean EVERYONE? The guy that went to college and has a good programming job that programs the machines that do the jobs humans once did? So EVERYONE gets it or it's not "UNIVERSAL" basic income. It will never work. As soon as everyone has the same amount of money to spend on the basics the cost of basics will go up to make the UBI not sufficient to provide the basics.

And if it's not "UNIVERSAL" basic income it's not fair to the workers that keep earning. Why work to make my life better when you take away my UBI because I chose to make money and better myself. You would in essence be penalizing hard work.

We are already there if this happens to a human driver. Cars are really dangerous - one in three car deaths in the US involves alcohol. Cars don’t drink alcohol, people do. There is much room to improve self driving cars, but eventually they will kill less and yes, we have to accept that they never will kill zero, because life is too complicated and ultimately humans are pretty stupid.

The other day I was looking up how to do some power query stuff on excel. What I would normally do is go to google search and type it in and then wade through links of bullshit/ads for about 10 minutes before I finally MAYBE find somebody else that has had the same problem in the past. Then if I'm lucky--it'll have somebody that responded with the right answer.

Instead, I went to ChatGPT and simply typed in my issue and ChatGPT was able to, not one, but give me THREE solutions to my problem. Within seconds.

Does it even matter what judgement the car makes in this situation (at least to start with)? By being willing to *not* go there, and keeping self-driving cars off the road, you're condemning the lives of thousands of drivers a year who make mistakes while doing the easy things (e.g. highway driving) that a driverless car can repeatably nail (source here https://www.tesla.com/VehicleSafetyReport).

There is actually a much, much larger trolley problem lurking here that people rarely talk about: choose to delay self driving cars, and be responsible for the deaths of many, many unfortunate people making mundane mistakes, or push for self-driving hard now, and be responsible for the deaths of (relatively few) people who are killed as a result of unfortunate edge cases (whether that be due to "AI decisions" or just software bugs). So yeah, I think we should be willing to go there, and quickly.

My brief summary : we will have a crisis of meaning if we don't have to work but we will recover and start doing stuff (voluntary) for the community.

Meanwhile I would continue to work if that was still possible.

Rents will go up, prices will go up.

People won't settle for their leafs and will want a shiny tesla.

Basic income will pay for rent and utilities and perhaps some cheap food.

There won't be a decent way out of this.

We need resource based economy and replicators.

Chatgpt is a lucid dream. It offers correct-ish answers that may or may not work. It's up to people to build new systems with these answers and to test them.
