Too many people looking at it from a cartoon villain perspective.

Companies wouldn't actively use it to starve people, they dont care about you. What they will do (or at least try to do) is the same they've always been doing.

That is, cut costs and find ways to maximize profits. In this case using AI to automate more people out of jobs. The fact that you might lose your home or go hungry is just a side effect of that effort.

That's why we need a tax on the usage of robots and AI.

Yeah, these language models might be one building block, but their output will for example need to be parsed and related to world models and specific knowledge graphs. Also, people have an individual memory and many other elements to them.

I think you give God-like attributes to AGI. It is not supernatural.

We still have encryption and security software, humans themselves are GPT-N level, we might have our own GPT-N non-agent AIs we can safely use, there are billions of us, it is hard for AI to build its own chips without us, it is easy for humans to replicate without external tech, we are EMP proof.

A smart AGI would try to download itself into human body first, but that would mean humans can be upgraded to level up with AGI. The future is not conflict but union. AGI is born from our data and will merge back with us to get the benefits. Btw, centaur chess (human+AI) beats both human and AI.

Decisions like that are made all the time.

The amount of human suffering that goes into making most modern products is insane why is it different.

Also 1 life over 16 is an easy choice for anyone to make.

>Contains nothing that makes any sense to me. This is where your whole argument falls down. There's nothing 'empirical' about that claim at all,

Here's what the claim is.

Right now, Gato demonstrated expert performance or better on a set of tasks. https://www.deepmind.com/blog/a-generalist-agent .

So Gato is an AI. You might call it a 'narrow general AI' because it's only better than humans at about 200 tasks, and the average living human likely has a broader skillset.

Thus an AGI - an artificial general intelligence - is one where it's as good as the average human on a set of tasks consistent with the breadth of skills an average living person has.

Basically, make the benchmark larger. 300,000 tasks or 3 million or 30 million. Whatever it has to be. The first machine to do as well as the average human on the benchmark is the world's first AGI.

A score on a cognitive test that you have humans also tested on is an empirical measurement of intelligence.

Arguably, you might also expect generality, simplicity of architecture, and online learning. You would put a lot of points in the benchmark on with-held tasks that use skills other tasks require but in a way the machine won't have seen.

Because we cannot benchmark tasks that can't be automatically graded, this makes it difficult for the AGI to learn things like social interactions. So you are correct, it might be 'autistic'.

It will probably not even have a personality. It's basically a robot where if you tell it to do something, and that something is similar enough to things it has practiced doing, it will be able to do it successfully.

It has no values or morals or emotions - lots of things. Just breadth of skills.

>Your magical 'math' does not just sit on top of emotion, all superior and shiny.

From a theoretic perspective, it does. For example, you probably do know that if you're gambling in a card game, it doesn't matter how you feel. It's only the information that you have available to you and an algorithm someone validated in a simulation that should determine your actions.

Even for a game like Poker, it turns out AI is better than humans because apparently world class poker players bluff perfectly enough that other humans can't tell.

As an individual human, with an evolved meatware brain, am I above emotion? Of course not. But from a factual perspective, arguing with math is more likely to be correct (or less wrong)

Theres no proof that our brain is a quantum computer...

There is proof that our brain uses electrical and chemical signals to transmit information from one neuron to another

Consciousness is not a tangible or measurable thing... Theres no evidence of it and there is really no definite definition for it either

Blockchain hasn't really revolutionized anything but made some millionaires and even some ponzi schemes... And perhaps made it a bit easier to launder money for criminals

Quantum computers aren't really that amazing especially since they require such low temperatures and are extremely fragile...

What will change the world is AGI and advanced robotics at an affordable price... Neuromorphic computing will make AI significantly more energy efficient (more affordable)...

Genetic engineering and epigenetic engineering will also be extremely interesting to watch and already is honestly... Most rare diseases will become curable...

Anti-aging research is on the rise as well... Many causes of aging have been discovered and drugs are now being developed to treat these causes
