In the foreseeable future, animation is a good field but will evolve to holographic and VR (Virtual Reality) using AI. Humans will be the consumers of that art. Humans will be the consumers of everything, food, hard goods, information, entertainment, etc. If humans don't consume then AI will have no purpose. Like the genie in Aladdin's lamp, our wish will be its command. But, as they say, " be careful what you wish for".

I imagine any kind of social work that requires in person interaction is going to be done by humans for a good while longer. Like, it would take a pretty advanced robot to have both the physical and intellectual abilities to look after high needs kids in a group home, for instance. That's not for everyone, though.

Singularity or not you will need to be able to adapt to the change as it comes.

Nursing but not because machines couldnt do it. People would not want to interact with machines all the time. Same goes for psychotherapists. The profession will probably be AI enhanced but people need to talk with a human.

I get tired of the 'nothing's ever worth being excited about' attitude in general when it comes to anything and everything tech-related. Every article about anything related to medicine or tech always has to end with the obligatory paragraph that goes "but we're still in the early days... scientists say it will be years if not decades before this is worth being happy or excited about..." Fuck off, just let us be happy for once in our miserable-ass lives and let us have our uplifting bit of news to temporarily relieve our desire to blow our brains out with a shotgun for about 30 minutes.

Future proof jobs. Gold standard for this is the creation of art.. Specifically for people who are interested in buying art for the human connection it entails.. ai will create better art, but people want art made by people. After that it's physical labor jobs. The physical aspects of the trades are going to take time to overcome. It takes much longer to make a physical robot and manufacture it en mass, than it does to upload an ai model to automate data based jobs.

Tldr, jobs which people want human service specifically, and physical complex labor jobs.

All will be automata except the first, eventually.

Ok not really the right comparison to religion. But there is definitely a dogma infecting this sub.

1. Conciousness will emerge from LLMs.

2. Massive loss of jobs and unemployment is imminent.

Neither of these claims has any credible evidence to support, yet they are vigorously defended whenever any skepticism is voiced. So in that way reminds me of religion and certainly is not grounded in 'science'.

I love the incredible progress we've seen in the area of ML and AI. But the idea that Conciousness will simply emerge from a large enough neural network is still a hypothesis. It is a hypothesis worth chasing for sure, but not a certainty. ChatGPT being able to surprise the user with a 'thoughtful' response is not evidence imo.

Also the CEO of some AI venture claiming 'you won't believe what's coming next' should also be taken with salt. I mean that's their job to promote their company.

I like evidence. And I'm finding very little of that here. This is why I left. Goodbye.
