You are doing what i have predicted : as cognitive labor cost tends towards 0, white collar will flood to a considered safe heaven:the manual work space.
But(to be seen yet) when the wave will be too big, the wages of even thatmanual sector will be reduced and there will be more competition & demanding job: even the bricklayer will have a master degree.
And last stage, when robot will get cheap & AI resolve all the current issues around physical world, the manual space will be impact.
Nobody is safe in mid long term.

It could still require considerable time to get enough hints on how the brain does that to implement it technologically. Evolutionary solutions can be messy.

Well I am not an expert but my understanding is that a certain protein is involved. If it is feasible to synthesise it, the problem will be solved. Billionaires will be all over it because they even more afraid of death than us. I am not sure what the long term implications are. I don't think society is ready.

I’m sorry for your job loss. It always sucks! If I can perhaps give you some encouragement by saying it may not be as bad as it could be. If you just consider the internet and the jobs it created that never existed or could be imagined, you may find a path within AI to utilize your skills. If you were let go as a side effect of AI you are in the very first wave so you have a head start in a new paradigm that includes AI. Think beyond fitting it into life today, what will business even look like, what will we value, will we buy books if we can just ask an app to write one, same with movies. 🤷🏼♂️ Back to the internet…bloggers, self publishing, podcasts, SEO, affiliates, influencers, and so on we’re not jobs in the mid 90s. There was no Etsy or EBay to offload your stuff. Since the Industrial Revolution we have more people and more jobs, very different jobs but jobs nonetheless. This time it’s hitting writers instead of miners.
ChatGPT is impressive and we should see exponential advances in AI, but adoption rates are slower than you think and scaling anything out to the masses always exposes weaknesses. Workflows are being disrupted, disruption creates opportunity.
Good luck 🍀try and stay positive

>a person merges two objectively safe (on their own) AGI-produced ideas
Well that's kind of the real problem isn't it? A person, or people, and their misuse or misinterpretation or whatever mistake they're making. You're talking societal problems that no one company is going to be able to solve. They can only anticipate what they can, hope the AGI anticipates the rest, and future problems can be tackled as they come.

You'll have to explain the logic there.
Not having a UBI and keeping people in financial stress seems to be doing a great job of undermining democracy.

If it does it only means that quantum computation is really easy.

For those who want the cliff notes.
Here's his poorly though out arguments
- Evolution took a long time to make brains so teams of programmers must take a long time to make brains. (Right because those two are totally equivalent processes)
- Humans are so special and magical we can't possible be emergent complexity arising from a simple rule set.
- Inventing a new chip could take 30 years (Ai invents viable chip designs in hours)
- We still need new ideas for AGI who knows how long that will take. (Not true btw, when available computation exists there's always more than enough ideas to take near maximum advantage of that computation, and available computation grows at a predictable exponential pace. Every 20 years we have more than a million times more computation available.).
But I understand the frustration of any Ai programmer that's been in the industry for multiple decades. They are attempting an impossible problem, trying to write AGI with insufficient compute, so of course they are going to get discouraged.
Compute power is all you need to look at to make predictions. The smartest people all over the world will squeeze nearly everything possible out of that compute as it arrives.

No, you're being offensive.
70 is a measure of a human IQ. Lots of humans have an IQ of around 70. They're regular, hard working people. There's nothing wrong with them.
I'm using that number because it is a number used to determine if someone is capable of employment, not to determine if they're good people.
I'm saying if we took away all the jobs from people with 70 and below IQs, it would be earth shattering. Because those people do a lot of work. Good work. Like good people do.
I'm literally saying that most people worry about AI becoming smarter than the smartest human, forgetting that most of us fall far below that line, and replacing all the hard working people in factories is going to change EVERYTHING.
But, deep down, you think people with low IQs are disgusting, and anyone that talks about them must be insulting them. Because you literally can't imagine a world where someone with a 70IQ is simply a reference point, and not an insult.
If we were talking about flying jets, and I offhand mentioned the robot would have to be 6ft tall, as that is the height cutoff for flying a jet, would you be insulted on the pilots behalf? No. Because you don't think 6ft tall jet fighter pilots are 'less' and need your defending.
Not only do factory workers not need you to stick up for them, you're showing your true colors with how you're acting like they're so mentally challenged no one should talk about them at all.

I’m just saying, i know IQ is a common measurement, and that it’s directly correlated with work. I’ve not seen that many comparison between IQ and machine intelligence in subs, certainly not low “IQ”. Even though the comparison is true, it’s still “offensive” to some cuz there’s discriminatory undertones to it. Like you said, taking the “slice of a 70IQ brain”, bruh, you could’ve made any other example. Like just a repetitive task, or taking the slice of a simple program that does the same thing over and over again.

But without LLMs they wouldn't be able to trim so much fat. It does increase productivity in this specific area greatly.

Independent of the current (and future) developments in AI, it's a good idea to create several independent income streams. This way, if one of them collapses, you don't instantly drop to zero income. There's a lot of good advice on the internet on how to do that.
Not a solution to all AI woes, but maybe a mitigation for some time.

70 is the limit for getting Social Security and not having to work. It is literally the line where someone is expected to go out and get a job.
I'm literally saying we don't need 'smarter than human' AGI. An AI that could do the work we give to the people of whom we expect the least would be an existential change.
IQ is a common measure of someone's intelligence. But, if the mention of a measure of human intelligence offends you, then you probably shouldn't take part in conversations where human intelligence is routinely compared to machine intelligence.

Except this is different. Humans have physical and mental capabilities. If AGI replaces the latter, then there’s no new mental job that is going to humans, no matter how many of them are created.
Physical jobs? Yeah, probably: Until robotics advances enough. I don’t want to be a robot repairer nor a store clerk though. I like my “mental” job.

But it’s still a human, you just said “lowest working human”, why lowest? Why 70IQ? Just say factory worker, even a repetitive one, I’m not denying that repetitive simple jobs usually have people that aren’t good at complex tasking or of particular intelligence, but still, no need to bring IQ into this, that’s kinda rude. It’s like saying “Just need an AI who can do a repetitive task like a cashier with Down Syndrome’s.”

yes, they are right. Dont rely on crutches to learn as a beginner. It will badly impact you & you will be clueless. You still need to know what is good dev pratices, POO, design patterns or else you wont even recogniez them when used by AI. He is a senior dev' so it is different.
