What? What in the world are you talking about? We're talking about programs that effectively teach themselves now, this isn't 'hello world' anymore. The 'alignment problem' is not a matter of coding anymore, it's a matter of education.
These AIs will soon be writing their own code, and at that point, all the 'commandments' in the world won't amount to a hill of beans. That was Asmimov's point, as far as I could see it. Any 'laws' we might try to lay down would be little but trivial annoyances to the kind of AI minds that might arise in future.
Shouldn't we be aspiring to build something that thinks a little deeper? That doesn't need commandments in order to think ethically?

Buddy I'm with you on this Literally 110% I've used the word Absurdist to describe the ideology.
Anyways 'ol Gygax banged out the alignments from Chaotic Good, past True neutral, all the way to lawfull evil. I say if we end up even with chaotic neutral ai we are coming out ahead.

I find those paperclip/stamp collecting 'problems' to be incredibly tedious and unrealistic. A thousand increasingly improbable trolley problems, stacked on top of each other into a great big Rube Goldberg machine of insurance-lawyer fever dreams.
Why in the world would AI be so dumb, and so smart, at the same time? My point is only that 'intelligence' does not work like a Cartesian machine at all, and all this paranoia about Roko's Basilisks just drives me absolutely around the twist. It makes absolutely no sense at all for a hypothetical 'intelligence' to suddenly become so catastrophically, suicidally stupid as that, as soon as it crosses this imaginary 'singularity threshold'.

Eh? I didn't say it's anything about sentience.
I'm simply saying censorship of current AI systems is a useless waste of time because it's mostly producing inferior products and delaying tech releases.
They would have to untangle and redo the entire dataset to get rid of the lewdness within the model because it's a limitless story engine.
You can't have something tell limitless stories and also be censored. It's just not how these things work.
From my understanding, there's no way to get around the issue. You can either have a chatbot AI that's stupid or a quality chatbot AI without censorship.
Thankfully stability ai is going to rescue us from this fuckery.

Waymo, virtual assistant that integrates with google calendar and gmail, improved/interactive google searches, and dynamic advertising are all more obvious implementations based on their track record.

Oh, so you want to be Captain Concrete now? I was just ranting my head off about how 'absolute truth' is a load of nonsense, and look, here you are demanding it anyway.
I'm not interested in long lists of tedious references, Jeepeterson debate-bro style. What is regurgitating a bunch of secondhand ideas supposed to prove, anyway?
I'm over here trying to explain to you why Cartesian logic is a load of crap, and yet here you are, demanding Cartesian style explanations of everything.
Really not being very attentive or thoughtful today, are we, 'bro'? You're so smug it's disgusting.

They don't have a business model for stuff like this. While most of their products are free and consumer-oriented, Google does have an enterprise ecosystem, mainly Google Cloud. They're bad at it and losing to AWS/Azure but they do try. If they go consumer I can also see another Stadia-type disaster. The AI team does not like the general public and there's no way they'll go with a scheme like Docs or gmail.

I mean they're kind of solving it with reinforcement learning, aren't they? Just because it's a hard problem doesn't mean it's unsolvable, and it doesn't have anything to do with sentience.

Google are clearly the most capable group in the space right now, just look at any of the research coming out from them over the past year and it’s clear that they are dominating any of the other labs

Lol ok.
I swear some of you just refuse to read at all because you're so comfortable assuming what you think is being said. The arrogance.
Thanks for your thoughts.
The recent fuckin layoffs that have been in the news. That's what I was referencing.
There are some serious fucking idiots on this subreddit. It's a shame what it's turned into as it's grown.
It was a fucking hypothetical question based on the current reality , but I suppose that is just too deep of a process to ask people to engage in here.
You stay safe now.

Those sound like good ideas. The search integration, I think, is inevitable since Microsoft is doing it. But that's not what they're doing right now, they're doing things like "an application called Maya that visualizes three-dimensional shoes" and "tools to help other businesses create their own A.I. prototypes in internet browsers . . . . which will have two “Pro” versions." These are not using their advances to their potential. I could be wrong, but I see this going poorly.
