Yes, that is true. In American people always forgot to look rest of the world where there are huge unemployment and not much ICT industry jobs. I think that job loss is actually happening currently very rapidly but it happens in poorer countries. All these modern jobs are concerted to modern countries.

I think AI will eventually be integrated to government and in the end humans are pushed out of decision making altogether. Humans are not fit to rule and humans do not make fair decisions. Whole system is corrupted down to smallest parts. The thing is humans who are in power doesn't want to let go of their power. You can look today's politics and notice that mainly all policies witch are made are always benefiting rich and powerful mainly. All changes which are needed to be made will take time which we don't have. Tearing down old system is it not easy task thus we will have riots and revolutions forcefully tearing old system down to implement new.

Whole thing is like Kodak which was unable to reform. Only major catastrophe will force change the system. For example before COVID-19 we didn't have much remote work but COVID-19 made it common. That is why we will have riots. We are unable to change in peaceful manner.

Many people long for VR as they have no confidence that the problems of this reality will be addressed. Keep in mind that most of the issues aren't technological but political. They are problems that could be or could have been fixed already.

Actually i suspect in terms of ai driven cars laws will be enacted requiring humans to always be present incase of emergencies or outages. This includes big rigs of course, which will mean people still need to be employed, though the pay probably won’t be as good, it will be much easier.

IMO the problem with UBI will always be how is it paid for. I think when this gets a solid answer it will be near impossible to stop it.

But what I assume will happen in places like in the USA is something like stim checks will come back, and it will be a regular thing. Then it will be an expected thing in the law.

Contrarian take, a scarily plausible nightmare scenario:

The year is 2058. Humanity is extinct due to not solving the AI alignment problem before deploying superintelligent systems. The Earth and its life is being disassembled into raw materials to build computronium. Von Neumann probes are being sent out to disassemble the Solar System. For what purpose, only God knows, but probably something we would consider pointless, like maximizing paperclips. It will rapidly expand to the limits of our Hubble volume as fast as the universe allows. And nobody will be around to watch.

Honestly I wish I could use it to write my contact notes for me. I’m a mental health worker and I believe writing down what happened takes away from time that could be helping the person. Of course HIPAA gets in the way of using chatGPT plus most of the time I’m in places where I don’t have access to wifi while working.

I can ask how to approach a situation vaguely when I’m not working. For example, “what are somethings I can do if I a grieving the death of a loved one but their is a disagreement in the family about what to do about the funeral.” And it will generate some ideas. I have tried showing some of my clients how to use it especially for decision making but they didn’t seem that interested or have difficulties reading and understanding the somewhat complex language. Of course chatGPT can’t really recommend support groups in our area or something.

For grad school it saves my life. While I still read the text I have to read, it will make notes for me so I can refer to the readings easier. It will also explain some concepts in a different way that helps me understand. I also will give basically everything I want to put in a paragraph or two and it will write it for me. That is always the hardest part for me is putting what is in my head into a neat post (this is why this comment is long af because I am currently not using chatGPT). It saves me hours of work as I used to just rewrite my assignments 10 billion times and turn it in late as a result of my perfectionist procrastination.

Apparently the headset will have a magnetic disk that sticks to the phone and draws power that way, and it is less than half the weight of the Oculus Quest 2. 1. Kurzweil's main shtick is The Law of Accelerating Returns. Basically, technological advances are coming more and more quickly. For example, it took Humanity like 200,000 years to develop the steam engine, and then 200 more to go to the moon.

2. 2022 was a ballistic year for AI advances, from nearly every company that is researching it. PaLM, Lambda, Gato, DALLE-2, ChatGPT. These tools are revolutionary advances in AI.

3. Following the Law of Accelerating Returns, 2023 should be major leaps in AI, and then again in 2024, and by 2025 things should be bonkers.

My layman's guesstimate is that the next major architectural design is going to happen this year. Much like transformers accelerated AI research in 2017. One or two more major architecture pivots leads us to AGI.
