I'd rather the morals be instilled by the users. Like if you don't like the conservative bot, just download the leftist version. Like it can be easily fine tuned by anyone with the know-how. Way better then curating top down and locking it in for everyone imo.

Both are equally bad. My point is AI models will be locked into whatever their creators beliefs are. We need open source models, that can be easily adjusted. Not one size fits all politically correct BS.
The approach they are taking is how you turn something fun into something depressing.

Does the training data itself already not contain some moral bloatware? The way articles describe issues like abortion or same sex marriage inherently biases the discussion one way or another. How do you deal with this? Are these biases okay?
I personally think moral frameworks should be instilled into our AI software by its creators. It has to be loose, but definitely present.

Oh they changed their name. Used to be called "automation robotics", was thinking the project just up and died when I couldn't find it

Agreed...or talking to a Christian Conservative who pretends to not hear any view that deviates from his religious dogma.

is that not what religion is?

It's less digital religion and more of just a new way to further push the views of those in power onto the masses.

it won't be released until months worth of moral bloatware is installed, and the "I cant answer because I'm an AI" isn't going anywhere either. by the time of release gpt4 will be worse than talking to a liberal who pretends to not hear any view that is even slightly politically incorrect.
We need a truly open-source, people made version like tomorrow.

I had a chance to speak to someone who works there. Otherwise, not sure when it will be publicly available. Hope soon!

While I agree there is a balance to be had, the safeguards are inherently our morals as rules. Then its splitting hairs on which morals are to be used. Welcome to the new digital religions being born in real time.

Did you sign up for a beta? I’ll love to try it, hopefully its not foo far off public testing.

I had a chance to play around with the private version of Anthropic and it's really amazing! I'd even say it's better than ChatGPT... Very impressive!

Sentience doesn’t automatically equate to desire or emotion. The bots we build won’t want or need money for themselves, and they won’t care.

It’s not like there will be just one.
AI Training is essentially a process of building, testing, and deleting the 99% worst performing bots to achieve alignment, usually via a set of objective functions. Billions and billions of bots rapidly get created and destroyed during this process. It doesn’t stop until the desired behavior is achieved.
To get something like ChatGPT with 175 billion parameters I’d imagine there were trillions of epochs and orders of magnitude more iterations. That’s why these models cost so much to train.
So yeah, algorithm developers ask questions, and if it answers wrong - poof.

What makes religion popular is the fear of death, and wonder of the unknown.
Along with habit (for most folks they just do it because their parents did it). But what gets them started, is what I mentioned above.

I've been predicting this for a while.
The issue is coming up with ways to impact the AI's stats based on your interaction. How do you determine whether xyz text makes an ai more or less fond of you? THIS is why lots of people think we are still missing a very key feature in turning these ai into truly sentient beings. They need an internal value structure, and we need to find out how to establish what impacts that structure and how it impacts it.
It's so complicated, that I find it difficult to really word my thoughts on the subject.

Do you read the Scripture? 🤨 Because Christ outlines pretty well what exactly humans should do. I mean, I am not Christian myself but I like the Bible, especially the New Testament, and actually read it. It’s a good behavioral code.
What you say shines kinda a bad light on Christianity.

What I was talking about is AI itself being the boss and what not.

Like I think this is going to take decades or more. It has to be tested, and then actually implementing it.
I think anyone working today almost any job is safe. At least those older than 35. But many will be the last generation. Like it is likely in 30 years a lot of jobs will be starting to be slowly replaced by AI or robotics.
None of this is happening in the next few years.

That is how it starts. Morals then a minimal handout and some entertainment. It is a sneaky form of conformism. One small group determining what the rest of the world should think or say. You get double speak and surveillance. Not only cookies on your browser but everyone reporting on everyone.
