Reply to RVA YIMBY kick-off meeting, Saturday at Ardent Brewing. "Yes in my backyard" pro-housing meetup. by DefaultSubsAreTerrib
A great article about why the YIMBY model doesn’t work, and actually harms poor and working class communities—the same communities YIMBYs claim to help.

Contra is so fun! Wish I could make it tonight. Highly recommend, and it's easy to catch on :)

We did lunch and supper and they were wonderful. Full sit down dinner and drinks for 30 and it was about $2500 all in. Great service and beautifully decorated too!

Start tweeting at the CCPS asking about it, also tweet at local news about it asking them what the deal is. Make sure it's extra public.

That isn’t a good space for a sit down dinner. You also can’t rent it out privately unless it’s during the day when it’s normally closed. Their back dining room would be the best option and there is no fee, you just have to meet a minimum amount.

I definitely didn't think it would be my thing either and ultimately I don't see myself getting it into it like your boss, but it amazed me how good it felt too just connect with others in such a playful, carefree way, especially after the isolation of the past few years.
I'm finding happiness in community settings and think yoga will be more of a stapler for me going forward, but happy to add this to my options of outlets. Thanks for the balanced input!

That's all I could think my first time too! It was a lil bit of a letdown but the graphics are better at least.

Not my thing, but my boss does this and she loves it. Goes to festivals all over the place for it.

I would hope that they side with the text and tradition of there being a separation between the church and the state…. They did turn a case down involving “Religious freedom” but idk with them sometimes.

CRT means different things to different people. Some people say it isn’t even being taught so being against it is ridiculous, or some say it is being taught and it’s good that it’s being taught.

Housing is undeniably far more necessary than a car

I’m imagining the way to do the contra dance is to jump up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, then you start?

Housing is “necessary” the same way owning a car is, but it’s also property and it’s scarce/finite. I don’t love the idea of public housing, but that’s a more just solution imo. Or a low income housing tax credit.

I think you’re comment speaks to the same thing everyone is pointing out: Housing costs shouldn’t fluctuate so rapidly for anyone. It is simply a bad thing for society.
Also if you can’t recognize the advantage of owing vs. renting and concede the point that renters are taken advantage of in ways owners aren’t, I don’t know what to say.

I didn't know when it was, but yes! I think I was working downtown and ended up having to walk to the greyhound station (instead of taking the grtc) because Broad Street was a giant mess.
